After uploading to SGW, be sure to click on the image so that the full-sized image pops up in a new window. Then right-click and select Copy Image Location, paste it into your post, and code it as an image like this: Code: Nice rooster BTW!

2. Lower resolution to 72 pixels/inch (maximum resolution of the average monitor) to help make files smaller than 500 KB. Some editing software will allow you to lower the "quality" setting a notch or two when saving (i.e. Photoshop) to further decrease image size. Didn't read through the entire thread, so please forgive me if this has already been mentioned, but one more step you can take, in order to "shrink" your picture down is to re-save it. Once you get a picture on your computer, it will take up a certain amount of file space, depending on the "complexity" of the image and its size. You can resize your pic and that will lessen its file size (btw, anyone using Windows XP, register your "Office" program. There's a very handy resize feature in "MS Office Picture Manager"). However, once the picture is shrunk by resizing it (and/or cropping it), you can compact it even more, by right clicking on the thumbnail of the pic and opening it in "paint". Once there, click on "file", then "save as". A small window will open over the picture. Make sure its opened in the file the pic is already saved in. Also make sure the file name is correct and that the "save as type" is on "JPEG". If you save the pic, then click YES, the result will be no physical alteration to the pic, but its capacity will have shrunk. So if the pic is 1200x800 and 150kb, simply by resaving it in paint, you can retain the 1200x800 size, but the file size (what I'm also calling "capacity") will have shrunk to something less than 150 ikb. Might be 149 kb, might be 49 kb. Depends on what's already happened with that pic. Dean

Nice shoes! Here's your issue, only Firefox shows the phrase, "Copy Image Location". So, I'll bet you're using IE? If so, when you right click on the image, click on Properties and then copy the Address(URL) code that shows up. The Properties window will look like this: (Note: this is an example and not the actual properties of your pic. It is just some generic pic I found on the web.) The code I used to post your shoe pic was this: Code:

EXCELLENT instructions on this thread! Will be trying them when I get back to civilization next week and have a full keyboard & big monitor to work on.

Don't attach it, embed it. Look further back in the posts about using Photobucket.

SGW also seems to resize them when embedded in a post so they are a standard size.

It didn't have this feature in the past and there were many pictures that would run off the screen. Now this isn't as much of a problem. It's one of the really good things that came with the newest updates.

I have not figured it out myself. If your image-hosting site has short URLs in the address bar, you can copy and paste those in, but I have not gotten it to work with Google+, my only web-based image hosting site.
I tried copying the URL from the SGW gallery but the URL is not the direct link to the image. I think SGW uses some kind of Javascript to display images and as the iPad has no mouse to "right click" you can't get to the direct image URL. I tried touching and holding the image, but it only gives you two options: save image and open. Open doesn't do anything but close the pop-up window and save takes you right back to your own iPad.
At the moment, I haven't figured out how to do it using the full site on an iPad. I tried the Outdoorhub app for a while but decided I liked the functionality of the full web-version of the site better. You could try downloading the app and see what is available, I'm not familiar with it.

MD If you have the image on your screen, right click in the middle of the image. A menu should pop up and at the bottom of that menu should be "Properties" Click "Properties" and you will see a window and in that window you will see Address (url) something like the followinghttp://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/cpg1410/albums/userpics/28079/normal_Grammar.jpg Copy that whole line and paste it between the two IMG things that pop up when you select IMG in the box for the message menu

I'm referring specifically to using an iPad, per Vfiretto's request above.

Things like the iPad or Galaxy Tab or a smart phone show why Photobucket is so much easier. I can still post photos because Photobucket provides the link all ready to go. Just use the Photobucket app like the regular website.
