Hi I need to find any information on this nickel plated wingmaster. YES IT SAYS WINGMASTER.

My father recently passed away and I inherited his shotgun. Which was shot for the first time ever 3 weeks ago. We have owned it for atleast 20 years.
it has an 18 inch barrel and he bought it with a foldable stock and pistol grip when he worked as a dispatcher for houston PD. The whole thing is nickel, interior, exterior

Now I cannot find any information on this gun. It does say wingmaster on the side and someone else found a shotgun very similair to it.
http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/arch ... 81257.html

I will post some pictures of it soon when it is emailed to me

Does anyone know anything about this?

remington 870 police shotgun
manufactured in 1981

did not say anything about it leaving as stainless steel, nickel, or parkerized.

the lady was also shocked that it says wingmaster on the receiver.

idk i am going to bring it to a collectors firearms store so they can look at the metal

my friend said he thinks its nickel but he may be wrong.

Are the pictures your 870?

If you could show some pictures of what yours looks/looked like before the changes that would be more useful in identifying it.

I do not often see barrels nickel plated, but it is not uncommon now or fourty years ago to take an 870 to a plating shop and have it nickel plated. That may be why the lady was shocked to hear that it is stamped wingmaster

Before the Express and Sportsman gun, EVERYTHING said Wingmaster. Except of course for the odd specimen that got out while the rollmarking dude was on break.

I do not trust Remington's dating service accuracy. If they were Match.com, you could end up with Nancy Pelosi.

From the looks of the corrosion in the picture, it could very well be electroless nickel finished. Remington did that with some of their shotguns as a selling feature for coastal/boat use. (It's a hell of a lot cheaper and easier machining than making one out of stainless!)

There are various "spot tests" that can be done to be sure (e.g. dimethylglyoxime) by a chemist, but it is probably one of the many guns they produced for boat owners for self-defense.
