My load is

17.1 Longshot
Windjammer blue wad
Fiocchi primer
7/8 oz shot

I was having a lot of trouble making the Windjammer wads work in HS. I thought the problem was the longer fingers on the Windjammer wads compared to the RXP wad that worked perfectly. If I cut the Windjammer to the same length as the RXP I could make them work.

I decided to check other possibilities and found that my 7/8 oz bushing was throwing an average of 400.5 grains of #8 Eagle shot. I tried another 7/8 oz bushing that threw an average of 385 grains of shot and all the problems disappeared. 7/8 oz is supposed to be 382.8 grains. The 20 some extra pellets from the 400 bushing made just enough difference and created the crimp issues.

Just an FYI if you are having stack height issues weigh your shot drops to see if you are getting the correct amount.

I am having a heck of a time finding a good 20ga load with proper stack height myself. I have two Lyman manuals, and the powder mfgr manuals but the loads I've tried have been mostly too too tall (I'm crushing hulls). I've seen here where the windjammer wad works well but would any offer their pet loads with the components I have; hulls: AAHS and RemGC, wads: RXP-20 and Claybuster WAA20, powder: International, Universal, Unique, and 20/28, primers: all brands. Oh, and I do use an adjustable charge bar and have dial in 378-382 for the shot drop.
Thanks and Semper Fi!

For 7/8 I use AAHS, 20/28 and CB (AA clone) wad. Fits well.

Rem hulls will accommodate the more bulky powders with the (otherwise) same recipe.

When you weigh your shot drop you are indeed WEIGHING. But, the bushing is dispensing a certain volume. It is possible that if you dropped High Antimony Magnum shot with this bushing you would get the correct weight. It is entirely possible (and in fact some companies make) to have two different bushings for a specified weight of high antimony Magnum # 7 1/2 and the same weight of chilled #9. These two bushings will drop the correct weight of each shot but they will have different volumes and the volume of the shot dropped will be different.

I use the blue Windjammer in my 7/8 ounce 20 gauge loads ... and prefer them. I use 20/28 powder and Remington STS or Gun Club shells. They work like a charm.

The rem 20 wad is the same height as the DRV-20 on the right.

The height of the wad is only part of the hull fill issue.

Absolutely, but in my case the powder part is Longshot. I'm not aware of any other powder that is denser for 20 ga use at 1250 fps

first I am a very mistrusting person, I will not shoot someone else's reloads. I have a set of expandable reamers to make the mec bushings throw what I want, not what the book said. That being said I use INT. cb wad #8 shot and a win AA hull. I could care less what primer I use. Fits perfect. I only use the AA hull because they load the same as the 28 AA hulls. Never less than 10 times. The only shell that don't fire are factory 12 gauge.
