Several state championships and North Central Regional are scheduled in the next 30 days. If those events happen without associated spikes in COVID morbidity, chances for Nationals to go on as planned might be improved. For now, guess we just wait and see. And, you are absolutely correct; it is a category 5 mess.

And, you are absolutely correct; it is a category 5 mess. That will have absolutely no bearing on whether or not Bexar County lets them proceed. All they are worried about is what’s happening in Bexar County. 90% of what’s been said here is simply wishful thinking. Only time will tell. A spike in September and it will be cancelled. Numbers continue to drop for infection rates will probably produce a different story.

If kids physically go back to school August/September, I would anticipate an associated COVID19 morbidity spike in that same time frame - simply because other respiratory diseases typically spike in association with that event. As you said, only time will tell.

If those events happen without associated spikes in COVID morbidity, chances for Nationals to go on as planned might be improved. Who is tracking that? How would they know? Depends. In KS the counties that have HD’s do contact tracing around newly reported cases. Some of the rural counties don’t have HD’s, and in those counties the State HD is the action agency (to the extent that resources allow). Purpose is to identify and contain clusters, but as part of the process they also try to identify the source for the index case. Most jurisdictions have some version of the process in place. In some states (e.g., WY) the state HD does it all. In more populous states, the activity is usually the responsibility of county and municipal health departments, often with state assistance.
