7/8 ounce. I shot a 21 on the next round with my 725 Browning using 1 1/8 ounce. Go figure! My old 20 gauge Wingmaster is the only gun I will take on quail hunt. 28 inch barrel fixed modified choke.

Is yours a std or LW configuration?

Standard plain barrel no rib. Built in the late 60's I have 10 pump guns Remingtons,Winchester Model 12's and a couple of Ithac's. Enjoy shooting them. I never owned a semi auto or a over and under until about 10 years ago. Just pumps and SxS.

Pumps are great. I have 3 870 20’s, love them all.

So is the real question , why would anyone own anything but a 12 ga. Yildiz and shoot 7\8 loads ? I do it because I can.

This particular thread starter is a self-contained "BIG-BORE" bigot. He wants to always use a cannon to kill fleas (clay pigeons).

Apparently he doesn't like a SLIGHT challenge for shooting clay pigeons.

To each his own, but I would like to meet him on a sporting clays course when I am shooting my "little" 28 gauge. (And yes, on occasion I use bigger bores as well.) But the smaller bores do OK when you want to challenge yourself, and previous patterning your guns/chokes at various distances so you know their limits helps, as well. (But I will admit, the .410 and 2 1/2" loads is a REAL challenge!)

So don't be afraid to use your favorite smaller bores - they kill live birds just fine, so why not clays?

I shoot the same sporting clays course every weekend; always shoot a round of 100 and have for about 2 years now. I like shooting different gauges, different loads, different guns because it keeps it interesting. If I had to take the same gauge every time, I'd likely get bored and go back to fishing every weekend.

And for the record, I keep a spreadsheet of every shot I have ever fired. Not any difference in my scores between 12g and 20g. If you told me I had to pick one to shoot, I would likely always take the 20g.

Is that pretty much shooting 9/8 0z shot in the 12 gauge or are you shooting reduced loads mostly in the 12gauge?

I shoot 28 gauge more than any other gauge and it has noting to do with recoil reduction or cost savings. It's just a fun gauge to shoot.

So I started with a 12 gauge. Not shooting registered or competitive but for fun and to practice for hunting. My wife wanted to start shooting. She has short arms and needed a short (youth) stock. Off of the shelf youth models were 20 gauges. We didn't want to get a 12 gauge and take the time and money to have the stock modified. So she was shooting a 20 gauge and I was shooting a 12 gauge. I bought a SxS 20 gauge to rabbit hunt with and started shooting clays with it. It was nice that my wife and I were shooting the same gauge as we could use the same shells. I discovered that I seemed to hit clays just as good with the 20 gauge as I did with the 12 gauge. Especially if I tightened my choke just a little from what I would use with the 12 gauge. For example, if I would shoot improved cylinder with the 12 gauge for a certain presentation, I would now shoot light modified with the 20 gauge and seem to do just as well. This led to reloading for the 20 gauge and me getting an O/U in 20 gauge. Eventually I was doing all my hunting and target shooting with the 20 gauge and gave my stepson my 12 gauge. Never felt like I was giving up that much using the 20 gauge. For clays, I usually shoot 7/8 ounce in the 20 gauge but sometimes shoot 1 ounce if I know there will be a lot of longer targets. When I used the 12 gauge, I shot mostly 1 ounce loads but also some 1 1/8 ounce loads on occasion too. That's how I ended up shooting the 20 gauge over the 12 gauge.
