I'd like to start logging targets shot just to have an idea how much shooting i actually do and track maintenance intervals on guns. For those that do it what are you using?

If you shoot different guns, you can have a Targets column for each gun. You can keep a running total of the Targets column to show cumulative number of targets.

You can even insert a photo of your scorecard in the Events cell.

Box tops. Save the box tops from a shooting session for a ‘close enough’ round count. You can make notes on them as well. Round file them once you’re home, and have recorded any info you want.

I don't feel there is any reason to keep a target log, because there isn't anything you can do about something that is over and done with. The same reason I won't look at the score card during an event, it's history and I have the next station to get ready for.

If I feel the need to look at target history, the NSCA keeps a record of all our past events.

I do pay attention to presentations that give me trouble so that I can work to fix whatever is lacking, but target logs........nope!!

I have a spreadsheet that records all of my guns, date used, ammo used, any notes, and score (for clay sports). I know exactly how many rounds are through every gun.

I keep a two sheet spread sheet. Sheet 1 lists date, place, gun, event, registered score, registered targets thrown, practice. Sheet 2 lists gun, shots in that month, YTD, Life to Date.

It takes all of 1 to 3 minutes to document each time I shoot. I know where and when I shot somewhere. I know how many rounds I’ve shot each gun. I can tell when I last shot a particular gun. I add comments to the cell if there is anything of note like lens color when I shot well or last service date and what was done. Adding comments adds a little extra time. I’ve been surprised how often I refer back to the data. For instance, I try to remember what hotel I stayed at and the rate (added to a cell comment) when I shot at South Florida Gun Club or the Meadows.

I keep a running Word doc shoot journal. Put relevant data about each shoot and practice session in it, most current at the top.

On my IPhone they have a notes tab. I made a two column table for the date and rounds fired. You can email to yourself and turn it in to a spreadsheet if needed. It just helps me have the number of rounds at a glance. I always have my phone in the Polaris.
I have a separate log book for the other categories mentioned above that I fill out once I’m not covered in sweat.

Don't be distracted with this during the shoot. Make notes after shooting is over for the day if you need to. If you have a weak mental game during tournaments that's a whole different issue. People do different things sometimes when under pressure. Scoring services give you pretty much what you need. And you can compare yourself with how others did.

There is a sheet you can print off of the NSCA website. You should be able to access it through your member page. I record Broke/Shot and punches and find it a positive thing to do.
