I just bought a nice "best" boxlock made by "J. Venables and Son" of St. Aldates, Oxford. I have not been able to locate any direct info on the company, although there are several indirect references when you do a "Google" search. Anyone know where I can find more on the company and hopefully on my gun? Thanks.

Side by Sides of the World for Y2K says Gun maker John Venables was located in Oxford, England circa 1846 to 1900. In 1868 the business became Venables and Son. A John Venables side by side was listed in Elderkin and Son Ltd. 1958 catalog as good quality.

Thanks Albany, that's a start; hope I get a few more leads. It is a very nice 12ga BLE, fully engraved, little used, with just 26" barrels, so it fits my short, out of shape figure.
