I was putting together a backpack full of usefull things to keep in the home or vehicle in the event of SHTF.

I was hoping to keep it pack size with legitimate weight.

So far I have:

hand-crank powered radio
spare batteries (12 AA)(8 AAA)(12-3volt lithium)
headlamp, flashlight and chem-lights
field rations
matches, magnesium stick and lighter
water treatment tablets and water purifier pump
multi-tool, knife
20 feet of para-cord
military issue poncho

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Fart spray. I'm serious. The stuff I used had a chemical stink that would clear a room better than anything I know. Think about it, if you need to get in some place in a non-lethal way and just need people to get out without them knowing you want them out, this stuff works great. Sometimes survival is more than defense issues. It also makes a great trail marker.

Beef Jerky. You can never have enough beef jerky. Snap into a slim jim man.

Seriously. In times of no bread, beef jerky is as good as cash.

Does a diaper bag consider an personal item or an extra bag to carry on board? I understand from the UA website that each person are able to carry 1 bag and 1 personal item such as briefcase or a laptop. Can I bring 1 bag (laptop in it) + 1 diaper bag on board?

Here goes off the top of my head:

1. Your prepared plan that includes triple redundant back-up routes and locations for any SHTF evacuation situation.
There are many details I could go into, but the most important one to have reciprocal agreements in place with "others" for shelter.
2. Compass or three
3. Laminated topographical maps to your prearranged evacuation locations.
4. More 550 cord, at least 50'. Mine has 100'.
5. Fishing line and hooks.
6. A good pair of comfortable boots, worn in.
7. Knife sharpening stone
8. Chap stick and sun block
9. Pictures of your love ones
10. Passport, financial account numbers/passwords and property deeds.
11. Money, gold, jewelery any thing you can use to trade for water/food/ammo/safe passage etc.
12. Laminated list of EVERYONE'S phone numbers, when your cell dies you won't remember numbers.
13. 6 month supply of any medications your taking
14. Space blanket
15. Small harmonica
16. Compact binoculars or monocular
17. Hard candy
18. Copper wire
19; Small metal cup to boil water
20. Wilderness survival book
21. Insect repellent

Toss in a jump drive with ALL your information on it. resume, medical records, copies of marriage certificate, birth certificates, bank statements, passports, social security cards, drivers license, credit card statements, the list is endless!... EVERYTHING you can scan and save.

If you have a true disaster and have to leave (like a Katrina situation) you will be without any form of these important documents. Also if your house burns to the ground all will be lost. At the vary least it will be easier for you to be able to replace these items if you have all the necessary digital copies.

Here, check this out:
http://www.theplacewithnoname.com/blogs ... index.html

That site will guide you with a real world ACTUAL situation that a guy went through. Not some theoretical "what if" situation.

Also look here, a great bunch of folks:

What I thought about is what happens when the electricity isn't working? Are you going to walk or ride? I placed a gas siphon pump in my BOB.

Well, since I've been bugging out for 35 years, I'd have to say subscribe to Backpacker magazine and a good rifle forum. LOL.

I'm going to come back to this thread this week-end. I've got some good stuff for those who are interested. This will be for those who bug out and stay bugged for awhile.
