I recently purchased a Smith and Wesson 1000 M shot gun and have two questions that I need answered.
1. Does anyone know where I can find this part - Capacity Reducing Pin, 12 Ga., Item No. 366600B? The plug for the Howa built S&W shotgun is a split pin that goes across the magazine. In the great state of Wisconsin, in order to water fowl hunt, you must use a plug in the gun. I believe this is the part that I need.
2. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a manual for this type of gun?
Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

The Gun Digest Book of Firearms Assembly/Disassembly Part V: Shotguns Second Edition devotes 11 pages to the S&W Model 1000. If that is useful to you, I can copy the pages and mail them.

A few weeks ago someone else ask about a plug for a 1000 or Super 1000. I tried to answer how to put a regulr plug in one. My Super 1000 has a plug someone made and not the correct pin. See if you can find that thread in this section. Email me if I can explain more after you read that post. Be SURE to check the recoil buffer in your gun.

That "recoil buffer" that riflebuilder is talking about would probably just last forever if it were made of neoprene and not rubber and didn't come in contact with solvents....the trouble is, that it often does and the result is that it melts and messes up the inside of the magazine tube....since the Howa semi-auto shotgun has its gas system in the tube, the shotgun will no longer function when the buffer melts.....I have seen many of these shotguns simply cleaned up and shot without a buffer and the result is a damaged magazine tube, as the outer mounted piston and the pin that retains it are allowed too much travel....the best replacement for this buffer (that I've found) is a thick leather disc used to replace the rubber O-ring....these do not degrade and if a thick enough piece of leather is used, they easily insure that the piston's retaining pin will not hammer the end of the slot in which it travels....

Thanks for the help fellas!!!
Does any one of other parts dealers for the S&W 1000 besides Numrich and LSG. most of the parts I need are out of stock at Numrich and LSG has this...Magazine Tube Assy *LSG Manufactured, Install, & Testfire for Safety and Function only... but I only really need the tube and the Piston Shock Absorber. My tube has a small indentation on it and the Magazine Follower gets stuck. This may seem petty but I think LSG is a little over the amount I want to pay. Any thoughts?

the mag tube is a very expensive part......but, unless yours has been run over by a big truck, it should be repairable.....

These are the parts I need for my gun...
SMITH & WESSON 1000 Item No. 366470B
Magazine Tube, 12 GA. Retail Price: $40.50 Add to Basket:
This item is currently sold out. Here's the kicker.."We frequently purchase new & used parts from many sources.
Make note of the item number and try back in 30-60 days."
SMITH & WESSON 1000 Item No. 366580B Piston Shock Absorber, 12 GA. Retail Price: $3.45
Item No. 366600B Capacity Reducing Pin, 12 Ga. Retail Price: $1.65 Add to Basket: This item is currently sold out.
Thats a good deal but the LSG wants $185 for the whole assembly and I don't need that and they don't sell it separately.
This is from LSG...123540000 Magazine Tube Assy *LSG Manufactured, Install, & Testfire for Safety and Function only 185.00*
How would you repair the tube and how do you get the plunger out? would I also have to replace the piston if it has some pitting on the rings. the thing is totally clean but it still doesn't slide in the tube freely.
You know as I'm rereading this it's sounds like I have quite a few issues on my hands. but I really like this gun and want to make it work.
Thanks for the help though!!!!

My understanding is that Numrich bought the parts when S&W went out of production of this gun. If you can find what you need any other place at a reasonable cost, you should jump on it. It gets to the point where you might as well look for a complete gun at $200 to $250, take what you need, and part it out.

I shot my S&W 1000 20 gauge last night at skeet and trap. She's a queen!!! What a nice, light, well built, "man sized" 20 gauge shotgun.
You need to pack that 1000 up and send it to one of our good gunsmiths on here. It doesn't sound like much of a job to recondition the mag tube and replace the recoil buffer, and add a plug. While it's out, putting in some screw tubes, if it doesn't already have some, wouldn't be a bad idea.
I took my SW1000 all apart, and I think they are made better in a lot of ways that an 1100 Remington. These things aren't junk, by any means. You just can't let the recoil buffer melt away, is all. Mine has especially nice finishing, wood, and checkering. The barrel looks like it was made in a jewelry shop.
I wonder if the brand new Turkish 1000 shares any common parts or even design with the old Howa guns?
