look on the barrel flat of the gun if it is pre 1994 or so it will have a 3 or 4 digit number stamped there...like 690....june of 1990......the newer guns have a letter/number code that is a little more complicated

Oops! I meant by the serial number. I found an internet gun and other person found serial number but not the DO.M. It is a three digit which I did find on mine. I was trying to find out with the serial number. It looks like that is not an option. Thanks for checking

gunut 1,

So the 4 digit number on the barrels, in the flat section underneath that read 1160 would make my 47E a Nov '60 gun?
It doesn't seem like a 40+ yr old gun. ?????

I'm not finding any 3-4 digit number on the flats of the receiver.

I need to date a Merkel also (but from photos, haven't handled the gun itself). Its a 12 gauge u/o with scroll engraving, scalloped receiver but no sign of cocking indicators - yet I would say it is at least 30+ years, could be 70+ years. Serial number is 173XX. Any ideas where to go from here?
cheers
Ross

dlpanther ,
Look at the water table, the flat part of the barrels that fits the receiver, there should be proof marks , date, chokes etc.
post a picture if you like.

12KE = DEC 94

BTW...those barrels are not from a model 8...they have ejectors,

making the gun is at minimum a model 47e....
