My Mom has a Parker Bros. double barrel 12 gauge shotgun, serial number 197993. It has been well cared for, and belonged to my grandfather who owned it during World War I. That is all she can recall. We are trying to obtain more information about its value (again, it is in very good condition). Her description is that the wooden stock is "scored in a long design on both sides", and that Parker Bros. and the serial number is inscribed in the steel. Any information would be appreciated! Thanks.

Dan

That serial number shows up in the Parker Serialization records as a Trojan Grade 12 gauge gun with 28" Trojan Steel barrels. This is the base grade gun of very structured feature availability which means it probably has an uncapped pistol grip stock, double triggers, and non automatic shell extractors. Value is dependent on condition, from about $400 to $3500 representing working, field used guns with a bit of finish loss, to a gun indistinguishable from new. No one in your family or any other owned that gun during WW1 since it was manufactured in 1922.

Lowgun, You answered his question very well, I wonder why Darkgael thought we should send him away, rather than help him with his inquiry.. Bushrod

"thought we should send him away, rather than help him with his inquiry.."
I didn't think that.
Didn't mean to step on anyone's toes. My reaction to any question like the one posed is to refer/defer to folk that I know know the answer.
I was pretty sure that a response would be forthcoming on this very helpful forum but IMHO it can't hurt to have as many avenues as possible to an answer.

It's my feeling that we should let our board members answer the guestions, out of respect for our forum owners.. If a post lingers unanswered, and it's apparent that no member has the proper answer, then I see no problem with sending the poster elsewhere. In this case, Lowgun gave the poster everything that he will get on the Parker site and he did so within 12 hoursof the original post, but the poster was sent to another site, just one hour after his initial post.. He may never visit our site again.. Just my thoughs..Bushrod

Yeah. You're right. Won't happen again.
