Hey all,
I've been lurking around here for a bit looking for information on these shotguns, as well as a few others. I haven't been able to find any thorough reviews anywhere. I'm interested in the 28" field model (#85110) for trap shooting and other uses. If you've had the opportunity to form an opinion on this firearm, please let me know what you think of it.

Sorry, I took so long.....I'm watching the baseball game.... :D

Here's a review I wrote a while ago....

http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=98511

Since then, my round count on my walnut field gun is over 8,000, I have yet to have a single malfunction of any kind...

I was so impressed with my field 930 that a couple months ago I bought the 930SPX, just for fun... I'm closing in on 3,000 rounds on the SPX.

I can't believe how well these guns balance and shoot. Do a search, there simply aren't any problems with this model.

If you have any questions, just ask, I'll try and help, if I can't, somebody on here will be able to...

Thanks Smitty! That is more or less what I was looking for. Didn't come up in my search for "mossberg 930" in the Mossberg section of the forum, and still doesn't.
My dealer was trying to talk me into ordering the combo for this walnut 28 incher, which I am not opposed to doing. This combo is the 85110 with the 24" slugster as an accessory barrel according to him (85125). The Mossberg website states that the bird barrel is 26 inches. Considering the amount I set aside for a new shotgun, maybe I'll just add an SPX to my original consideration!

Thanks for the info.

When using the search feature you need to spell out the boolean logic, for example, if you want to search for "Mossberg 930" you have to type MOSSBERG AND 930, that way it will search for all topics with both words....

You can always wait and order the 2nd barrel later....I've ordered a cantilever scope barrel for mine, It's nice you can change the barrel and not have to re-zero the scope when you re-install it.

The 930 is an excellent gun that wont let you down. Everyone who owns one loves and i finally got a chance to shoot one and was impressed. I truely believe that they are just as reliable as say a beretta 391 or a semi that cost 1,000 bucks more. The only thing that i think is different about them is the name and the fit and finish isnt as pretty. Mossberg has always tried to make a great gun at a great price. They are right on the ball again.

I'm over 8,500 with my field gun still no problems and no signs of wearing out....

Here is a very amateur review I did on my 930 about a year ago. Pics have been lost unfortunately do to my photobucket account. I really liked this gun and stupidly sold it for another, I have a new 930 in max-4 coming within the next week!! Only thing I dont really like is the fact that they ported the barrels, I think this is useless and dont see the need for it. Otherwise its a GREAT gun for a great price!!

My experience is with the SPX, but I based the decision to buy it on the rep of the sporting models.
Here is a review I did at WEVO on the SPX. While it is not a sporting gun, it should give you an idea of how durable the basic system is. It might also help push you over the edge on getting the SPX as well.

I have liked mine so much that I am thinking about getting one of the sport combos as well for dove and duck.

I bought the synthetic field/security combo in July. I haven't fired the security barrel yet. I've been too busy shooting trap and dove with it. Only 250 rounds through it so far, but hunting season is just starting. Not a hiccup or any problems. This gun fits me better that any shotgun I have ever picked up out of the box. If I miss it's me and not the gun. Every round ejects with authority from Winchester Universals to AA Sporting Clay rounds at 1300 fps. I think it handles and swings well and is very well balanced. Whats not to like? I would buy another in a heartbeat (especially if I could find one with the wood that Smitty has on his).

Just to give you a little teaser here!!! I have since received my new Mossy 930 in Max-4 camo and have hit the duck blind for another season of hunting!! I have been out twice and love the Mossy to death, it works great and I could not ask for anything more in a $500 waterfowl gun!!

I took it compleatly apart this time and was amazed at how easy it was to get apart and re-assembled. Very nice design and well thought out. Put it this way, I do a tonne of waterfowl hunting and am on a budget, this gun will be by my side for years and years to come! Here comes the teasing part:

Smitty, good point, I just ordered a 930 28" Walnut Field today, do you put anything on your stock and forearm, or did you just luck out with getting a nice piece of wood with it? Mine should be in within about 5-7 days hopefully, can't wait to take it out and shoot some clays.

Here is a pic of my first 28" walnut 930...

Note that this one has the Gold plated trigger....

I bought the second one, with the nice wood (and black trigger ??), when my friend that works in the shop said, "come on in the back I want to show you something....." I should know better than to lsten when he says that, because I usually leave with a lighter wallet....

I still don't know if my wife knows that there are two walnut versions of the 930 in the house or not... I keep telling her, it could be worse.... I have a '68 Mustang that has been in the garage for about 6 years, THAT hobby gets expensive real quick....

Hey guys, I've just come across a great deal on a used but new 930. And I'm seriously thinking about it. So can you school me on the gas system in these guns? What's better about the 930 system than a 1187 or similar auto? How do they do in freezing rain/snow, when they get hot, can I drive over it with my truck, yadda yadda yadda......Thanks. :)

NO O-rings!! If you're running in the freezing snow/rain, don't over-use your favorite gun oil, just a very light coat... almost dry.
