Baikal sold, and probably still sells the O/U, and perhaps a sxs? in .30/06 caliber. I am wondering if anyone is aware of any in this caliber that had any mechanical or other problems? Too, would like to hear about positive experiences with same.

Some hunters use them here in Canada. Mostly positive comments. They are all in 30.06 caliber.

Over here they are quite expensive. The sxs rifles go for around $1,100.- I am sure you can get much better deals in the USA.

The double rifles produced by Baikal come in both u/o and sxs configurations. Here in Australia they have both been available for some time. I have had personal shooting experience with the u/o double in 9.3x74R which was excellent, and they are also available in other calibres including 30/06.

The sxs double is the traditional double rifle configuration and in my opinion more desireable but the range of calibres are limited to 30/06 as a maximum. They both come with a adjustable barrel feature which allows you to tune the rifle to different ammunition, which has been a negative factor with traditional double rifles and they are great value for the money. Just check the cost of other double rifles on the market.

Fit and finish are acceptable (from what I have seen) but obviously you get what you pay for and if you are looking for a double rifle to take into the woods hunting then this is your gun. This is not a pristine safe queen to be oiled, polished and then put back into the safe.

As for durability of the rifle and the adjustment system only time will tell. They have been on the market for under 12 months (sxs, the u/o has been here a lot longer), but no major reports of failures or flaws have surfaced just yet.

I use a double rifle for some of my hunting (from another maker) and love the feel of a sxs between my hands, same goes for my shotguns. I can heartily recommend this gun for a hunter who is so inclined. I have not yet purchased the Baikal sxs as I aleady own other 30/06's and am waiting for the promised 45/70 chambering, although I am not holding my breath on that one.

In summary they are great value guns that give the average hunter an opportunity to experience the thrill of a hunt with a classic double rifle. What can be better than that!!
