Bought a red plastic powder baffle. When I install it do I take out the rubber washer between the bottle and powder bar?

Yep, take out the brass one, and the rubber one, and just screw in the red baffel... that's all there is to it.

The first use can be a bit tough as they are a tight fit into the press, but it gets better.

Don't cross the threads, which is easy to do.

I spray a little pure silicone on my finger and rub it around the threads.

Makes screwing it in much, much easier.

If you can hold onto it because of the slippery silicone

Please excuse my ignorance but what is its purpose and is it a recommend item for the beginning reloader?

Sorry don't want to get off track,

Dusty

PC for Politically Correct. (It's an election year ya know.)

Actually, it's to take the weight off the powder at the bottom of the hopper - makes for more uniform powder drops.

The baffle keeps the pressure of the powder in the bottle even on the powder bushing, thus helping the consistency of the drops. The red plastic baffle has a sliding plastic sleeve that presses onto the powder part of the bar, nearly eliminating any powder migration while reducing drag on the bar.
