Dick's in my area (northern Virginia) is selling a Stoeger STF 3000 o/u (12 ga,. w/ 28" barrels, 20 ga. w/ 26" barrels) for $399 (marked down from $499). I can't find any information on this gun, even on Stoeger's web site. Anyone know what it's like or anything about it?

Thanks, Kraiza, for the prompt reply.
As an owner of 2 Stoeger M2000s (early 12 ga. models and doing GREAT), a couple of "Belgium" Browning semis (an A5 12 and a "Sweet" 16 ga.), a Mossberg 9200 12 ga. combo (great gun at a fantastic price) and a Verona 20 ga. o/u, I have relied upon this site for a lot of very useful information. I hope that the same will be true on this gun.

Anyone with any info?

For what it's worth, I sent my original question to Stoeger via their web site several days ago. I guess that they don't know (or won't say), as I've yet to hear a peep from them.

Skunk-works gun?

Ya thats what happen when you e-mail tha factory. I will try to make a call.
I think this could be a good hunting gun, but who knows. I'm almost ready to buy it, but a guy at my club has a used Franchi Diamond that I think I can get for $450. I have to wait to see what will happen.
I can always get a new Browning or Beretta and call it a day.

I love my Stoegers, but I sent an email months ago and never got a response, so don't hold your breath on an email response.

I have seen a picture of the 3000 but haven't handled one or seen it close up. To me it looks like a scaled up version of the condor. Nickle/silver receiver, looks to be extended chokes, the barrels seem to have a vent between them (not solid like the condor). All in all not unhappy with my condor, would seem to be a good value like the other Stoegers. In the ad for Dicks it says "only at Dick's", so I think they do the same thing with a Franchi Diamond. Thats probably why there is no info on the Stoeger Website. I think it is an "exclusive" make for Dicks.

My only comment is I would rather let them get out to the "general" public and hears some reviews before I would purchase one. I hate being the "guinea pig".

I picked one up last Wednesday for the $399 price and took it to the gun club on Sunday for my first attempt at Skeet. I was very pleased with the gun as it fired reliably every time and ejected the shells with authority.

I stunk it up on the first round (4), then shot 13 out of 25 on the second round. No fault of the gun at all, just me getting used to target presentations. Being a noob, I realized afterwards that I was also shooting with the Mod choke on the bottom and the Full choke on the top, which may have some impact on my scores. However, nothing like crushing the clay at about 15 yards with the Full choke! Toward the end of the second round I was hitting all the birds, even the doubles which was really surprising me and the squad I was with.

All-in-all, hard to argue with price/performance of the gun. The auto safety was no problem and only reset after breaking open the action, as I hoped.

The 1oz. #9's loads were very light on the shoulder and the 1 1/8 oz. #8's was a noticeable difference, but not punishing at all. No aches or bruises.

At this point about all I hope for is the action to break open just a tad looser and that the standard Winchokes will work in the gun. I would like to get a couple Skeet chokes to see what happens. The guys in the squad all spoke favorably about the Angleport chokes.

Finally, don't expect to impress the gun club regulars with an "upgraded Condor". Have fun with it and spend your savings on ammo, clay and instruction.

Question about the auto safety. The guys at Dick's say that the safety will reset it self in between shots. That is not a good thing for me since I am looking to shoot clays with it.

Anybody know if that is true about it resetting itself between shots.

it only reset's when you open the action. on the benelli forum under STOEGER firearms there is a fix to disable the auto reset on the saftey. :)

Anybody else with knowledge of this. I am really unsure about buying this gun if it does that.

hopper810 is correct. The auto-safety only resets when you open the action. I own the STF 3000 and I have found this to be true.

I see the same ad from Dick's here in Charlotte, NC area for the Benelli STF 3000 O/U. ($399, Dick's exclusive) I currently own a condor for about a year now, which was my first gun, love it, no problems at all whatsoever. Am starting to think about my next gun. My only issue with the condor is the non-selectable barrels. Makes it hard when shooting sporting clays and need to switch chokes due to shot presentations. Shot a 54/100 yesterday sporting clays, only my third time on the sporting clays course. Does the Benelli STF 3000 O/U have a barrel selector switch / safety? I like the looks of that gun, and if it adds function as well over the standard condor, I am sold. Appreciate all you inpuy.

JA

No the STF 3000 does not have the barrel selector. It also has the auto-safety which can be a pain but once you get use it its natural. I have shot about 200 rounds threw it with trulock skeet chokes and i love it.
