By "tactical" I mean for law enforcement and military purposes in addition to hd. I have never owned a semi-auto shotgun so I have no frame of reference on this subject. I'm comfortable with my 870 so I'm not very interested in trading it in for an autoloader, but I am curious what the general opinion of the forum is on this subject.

There are alot of popular ones out there, but I love the Mossberg 930 SPX. It seemed to have all the right stuff and after buying one I have no regrets. Great bang for buck too.

I did change out the safety to a vang comp metal one. Less plastic the better IMHO.

M24 did a awesome review on it as well.

I currently don't have either, but what kind of price range are the autoloaders in?

Always been an 870 man myself and will never be without one, but I've been playing with a cut down A5 Browing for about two years and just ordered a Mossberg 930 HS to play with. Someday I may try a Benelli M2 or M4, but I'll have to think about spending that kind of money on a shotgun.

I got the Mossberg for $375 delievered, I think the SPX models are about $100 higher. M24's review and another I read convinced me to give one a try.

I wouldn't give up my 870P for anything, but if I had to get a semi-auto I'd probably go with a Benelli M4 with the adjustible stock. The Marine Corps can't be wrong about it, can they?

Remington 870 did not enter the shotgun bid so Mossberg took it for the military,870 had many customers already. The M4 is indeed a good weapon but again, not the best and USMC can and did made mistakes on many issues.

Whoops, someone was right, the Mossberg 930 SPX i have one, good value for the money, world class in handling.

It's just like pump guns- everyone is going to have a different opinion.

Personally, I'd lean towards the Saiga. Other than that, I like the various versions of the Benelli inertia action- Benelli M2, Beretta 1201fp, Stoeger m2000hd, ect.
I haven't ever gotten a chance to handle a Mossberg 930 SPX, but with all the good things I'm hearing about it, I sure would like to.

Forthed?

Or was I second, because I was the 2nd person to say Saiga?

anyways, it doesn't matter- I'm pretty sure it's the only auto shotgun based on a battlefield proven action like the AK.

Whatever shotgun is closest to you when you really, really need it.

I like Benelli. Eh, whatever you want, get it.

Glad to hear all the good reviews on the Mossy 930. I have a Mossberg 590 and love it but would like to trade it for a semi auto.

If you look at the top competitors in tactical shotgun compitition and IPSC 3 gun matches where speed and reliability are paramount, Benellies dominate, Saigas are starting to catch on, but only because of the faster reloading ability. I have 3 Benellies and would bet my life on them. I would doubt you would need to fire more than eight or nine shots in the real world without finding cover. A downside is that the Benellies cost like rip. I still feel totally confident with an 870 by my bed.

You did not misread it. I have a loaded 590 with all the toys, ghost ring sights, side saddle, full butt stock with pistol grip and a Tachtical Light forearm. I like it a lot but I think I want a semi auto platform to go with my Glock and AR for a more seemless three gun set up. I know I could train a bit more but I picked up the 590 after shooting the AR and under pressure forgot to pump it.

You have a PM.
