540 is rather slow for these loads in 12 ga, it is usually used for 1 1/4 oz or heavier. You could try a Hodgdon manual, HS-6 and 540 are the same powders.

What kind of hulls do you have? I have a good selection of old reloading manuals and I'd be glad to look up a few loads for you. But as mentioned, it is a powder intended for heavy hunting loads.

If you want current data, just use a recent Hodgdon manual. As stataed above, WW540 and HS6 are one and the same powder.

I have 11,000 new style AA once fired. 2,000 STS & Gold Nitro once fired. 2,500 Remington Gun Club once fired.

540 powder is a 28ga target powder or 1 oz 20ga powder. Maybe you could do a trade for target powder at the club.

I've used Win 540 for 1 ounce loads in 20 gauge shells. It's a rather dirty powder and I wouldn't recommend it at all for 12 gauge use unless you are going to load some really heavy shells. There are many better powders for 12 gauge target loads.

I see nine recipes for W540 in my Lymand Shotshell Handbook, 3rd edition, for AA hulls. All of the loads are 1 1/4 oz in the 1300fps/9,000psi range. No 1 1/8 oz recipes. Still want the data? I'll fax it to you if you'll send me a Priv Mesg, or I'll post a few.

540 is nasty in 12. if you want to load some space shuttle loads, use universal clays, or even longshot. if you have a quantity of 540, take it to your gun club and find a skeet junkie that loads 28. he will take it off your hands. if you are not loading 1 1/4oz loads at screamer velocities, intl' clays is good. what are you going to load for?
