A friend of mine has one he wants to sell, its a black synthetic stock, has never been fired. I looked down the bore the other day, not a single mark in either chamber or barrell, and the tag is still on the trigger guard, no price listed. The gun was given to him so he doesn't know what was paid for it.
I was thinking of picking it up for my sons B-day present, but don't know anything about the value. Anyone feel like throwing some numbers at me? whats the most you would pay and what can I offer without offending him???

I'd say 375-450 would be fair for both of you. If you bought one from a store it would probably run 500 bucks. Look on Gunsamerica or gunbroker.com. Used to be you could pick them up cheap but I guess everyone knows how good of a gun they are now.

Keep in mind, there's about a 95% plus chance that both bbls won't shoot together to the sights... I've had and shot a lot of the Savages made combo's, and not one would pattern to where the rifle was sighted...

You might also want to check the Game Laws in your State, some prohibit rifles and/or shotguns during hunting seasons.

Thanks to everyone for the quick replies,

I told Him today that I had to have it after reading replies,
He said he would take $300.00 for it. and like I said it was given to him so I guess we both made out O.K.

Thats a great point, I haven't shot one in about 20 yrs, and I never sighted the gun, just went plinkin with it.

I know the game laws here in IA. very well. It'll be great for around the farm and for father son sqiurrell and rabbit hunts.

Thanks Guys...
Matt

Here in Indiana, you cannot hunt deer  with a combo gun unless (new this year) it's rifle cartridge is a handgun cartridge like a 44 Mag, 357 Mag or 45 Long Colt. Wierd laws are found in different states.

That's too bad too... I'm a big lover of combo guns, and in fact 99% of all my hunting is with a combo gun.

In many states you can hunt with a combo gun as long as you do NOT have ammo for what ever bbl that's not legal at the time of year. At least that law would be fair to those of us who love out combo guns!

Valmet in Finland made the Savage 2400's, and if you want a really nice combo gun that many times can be bought cheaper, look for a Savage 2400. The owner can easily regulate the rifle bbl. to any factory/handload they want, and they are very accurate guns.

Here's mine, chambered 12ga./.222 Rem...

A step up from the 2400's, is the Valmet 412's... but i'll save that for another time...

My Savage 24 S-E in .22lr/20ga is on the way from the gun shop. I bought it Friday night on gunbroker.com for squirrel and, maybe, rabbit hunting.

2007 was the last year they were made. Some distributors still have a few in stock. The 2007 version was the 24F with the black Du Pont Rynite synthetic stock. The gun weighs 8 lbs whether 12 ga or 20 ga.

Mine was made in the early 70's, has a wood stock and weighs 6.5 lbs. The older 12 ga guns weigh 8 lbs.

I'd like one in .22wmr/20ga or .223rem/20ga for coyote hunting.

Sounds like you got a great deal. I've always wanted one of those guns, but never got around to picking one up.

For anyone who likes the versatility of a 2-in-one gun but doesn't need to have both available at the same time, the Rossi combos are one way to go. I've got one in youth size.410/.22 and it only cost $110 at the local Dunham's store. It's a delight to carry in the woods, and I like the shortness for quick shouldering.

They aren't fancy or pretty, but mine is very accurate and you can switch barrels in about 30 seconds.

It 'll have to be a secret mission, if the better half finds out I purchased another gun "In the DOG HOUSE" would be putting it mild.
I'll let you know what I find out when I can sneak it out DM.
By the way yours is a fine looking piece of hardware!
