I read something about it being a model 5100 which was the 311 predecessor. Is this accurate, because im sure that could help out with a date?

The cross-reference sheet located here

http://www.e-gunparts.com/crossref.asp

Says it is a Stevens 5100 made for Montgomery Wards. Do a search for 'hercules'.

Here is a link to a schematic and parts list: http://www.e-gunparts.com/productschem. ... =089Zz5100

Hope that helps in your search.

That's interesting. This is the source I was using:

https://www.gun-data.com/Montgomery_ward_firearms.html

The Marlin 515 is a bolt action.

A single photo would clear it up, but it is likely MW labeled the 50 from both 5100's and 315's.
If the fore end has the sharp edge up front=315
not = 5100
