I've had one of these for about 35 years. Could use a barrel, or even a whole gun if anybody has one to spare. These are long recoil action, similar to the Franchi action. Very light and quick pointing. Not a "fine piece" with the aluminum receiver, but a nice gun nonetheless.

Ithaca used to have a warehouse/assembly/repair facility in Dunnville, Ontario, 45 minutes down the road from here.

I used to go there when they were operating since I owned an SKB 600 and several 37's.

When I was there about 1972, they told me the recoil operated 300's and 900's sometimes would experience receiver cracks. When this would happen, the bolt would often be difficult to open. They told me of one gun that was OK, then stored for a few months, while in storeage, the receiver cracked and the owner couldn't open the action. All they could do was replace the receivers, back when these were available.

The gas operated SKB autoloaders did not share this problem from what I recall.

I have an SKB mod 300 in good condition. It is very light and cycles well. I don't use it as much anymore since I mainly shoot sporting clays now and my family gave me a nice o/u. Make an offer. tom@tjtek.net

How can one tell if they have a model 900 "SKB", or not?

A fellow on another forum is offering one for sale. All he said was it was am Ithaca model 900, made in Japan. Is there some place on the gun I should ask him to look, for a marking as to whether or not it is an SKB? Was there two different makers of the model 900 in Japan, for Ithaca, and was the SKB the superior of the two? Or was one made in US, the other in Japan, and it was the US made model that had receiver crack problems? :?

Local pawn shop has a gas operated Ithica/SKB model 300 12 ga with a plain full choke barrel for $225. Good condition. They also had last time I was in there a barrel for either the 300 or 900 recoil gun, but I don't remember all the details on the barrel.

The ithaca/skb 900 and the skb 900 are esentially the same gun. The ithaca just says ithaca imported by... so to answer you question either are SKB's , Ithaca just put their name on some. The only auto loaders that Ithaca truely built are the mod 51 and the MAG 10. Any thing else is an import, nice functional shotguns but still an import.

H2OK9S has given you some good info that I will try to add to.

This is based on my early experience when I was getting started in the early 1970's, the dates will not be exact.

SKB made the earlier 300 and 900 and Ithaca inported them, I assume starting in the mid 1960's. These were recoil opeated. The 900's were a 300 with more "decoration".

Sometime in the early 1970's (1971 or 72 :?:  ), SKB brought out the 300 and 900 gas operated autoloaders and the recoil operated guns were phased out. Ithaca imported these too. Again, the 900 was a fancy 300.

I was told at the Ithaca warehouse/assembly/repair facility that Ithaca had in Dunnville, Ontario, Canada in the early 1970's that some of the recoil operated guns had receivers crack. This did not seem dependant on the number of rounds fired. Apparnetly some "low mileage" guns would crack in storage between hunting seasons, others would shoot many shells w/o a hitch.

The later gas operated guns did not appear to have this issue.

I went by the pawn shop I mentioned before and the barrel they have is a 12 ga recoil model 300, 30 inch full choke vent rib. I would say good condition, some blueing worn off. Their sticker was $69.95

To be accurate, I doubt it was made in Dunnville, even though they are marked with "Dunnville".

I used to visit the Ithaca facility in Dunnville in the early 1970's and these guns were not made there but were warehoused there and repairs were provided there as well.

The Dunnville facility acted as a warehouse and repair shop for the Ithaca guns, both U.S. made and offshore guns that Ithaca sold. They did assemble 37's, from rough-finished parts, provided from the Ithaca plant in Ithaca, NY.

I have an SKB Model 100 that I bought new in the late 70s. It MAYBE has had two boxes of bird shot through it. It's for sale -- perfect condition.
