For all you nay sayers out there, heres what a SMOOTHBORE can do with
proper sights and a good slug load.

Image

3 shots measuring just over .75 inches center to center. Range was 50 yards. Gun
was my Remington 870 20ga equipped with a bushnell trophy red dot. I was
shooting my slug reloads using the Dangerous Game slugs from Ballistic Products.
3 inch Cheddite hull with a nice charge of Alliant Steel Powder. Chronographed
going 1500fps out of my 21 inch barrel. Will be testing these at 100 yards soon
to see how well they group.

Here is my new slug gun I built this year. A Remington 1100 Magnum. I changed the action tube to a 2 3/4, put on a Hastings rifled slug barrel, Timney Trigger, drilled and tapped the receiver myself for the Weaver mount, Weaver Quad Lock rings, Leupold 3-9x40 Rifleman, camo synthetic stock (old stock was broken and split), and last but not least I used plastic low heat release epoxy to mate the barrel and the receiver.

I haven't tested for groupings, but these Hornady SST's did a number on this doe. It's first shot took an animal today at 100yds so I'm glad of that. Boy do those SST's shoot flat, and do damage. Through and through, a chunk out of the heart, and the both lungs just felt like like wet mushy hamburger. I couldn't pick out any solid chunk of lung.

My wife and her 870. 20ga youth with a speed feed adult stock on it. 3x9x40 Leopold and a trigger job. Shoots Lightfield slugs like nobody's business! I used to use it as well.

Best Picture I could find.

I shot This deer with that gun:

My 12ga H&R. Had a trigger job. Best thing you could do to the gun!

Thought I'd add to my above post with a picture of my growing collection of tight
groups from my 20ga 870 smoothbore. All were shot at 50 yards. The topmost group
with the blue and red on it and the group furthest to the right were both shot
freehanded. All the others were shot with the gun supported.

I "updated" my 870 also. She is now my home defense/slug shooter/deer gun.

Any opinions on a great accurate semi auto slug gun for forester slugs?

Forester slugs? You mean foster slugs? Try Mossberg 930.

Well folks, updating the Benelli Supernova.

Added a speedbead so could mount a Burris Fastfire complement the slug barrel

Image

And close up of mount

But when I took the butt pad off, an assembly came out of the stock with the recoil pad:

So guess I have to find some strong glue and abrasive to work a little off the pad

The joys of gun ownership!

Scrummy
