I have a Model 720 that my father bought in 1947. It has the US Ordnance markings that confirm it was used by the US Army Air Force during WWII, probably for training bomber gunners.

One thing that continues to puzzle me is the Poly-Choke on the end of the original barrel(serialized). The over-all barrel length is 28" and there is no choke marking on it.

Is the choke factory installed, as I suspect?

It may be factory installed. Remington did not choke mark their barrels that had Cutts chokes installed on them at the factory. Maybe Savage did the same.

But, are there any asterisk marks on the barrel? Savage did not mark their 720 barrels with normal choke markings like "CYL" or "MOD" etc. Rather, they used asterisk marks

Thanks Tom. I was not aware of the asterix choke markings. I know many Savage guns I have or have handled don't have any choke markings on them.

I double checked and there are no asterix markings either. Other than expected lettering, a proof mark (SP in circle) is the only other mark on the barrel.

I had hoped for a wider audience and more feedback here but I guess I'll try John Callahan. I believe he has all of the old Savage records.

From your description, you have a factory Cutts instalation that was used and made for a Skeet gun for the USAF.
