Does this concept exist in shotguns? I would think that a duracoated chrome lined barrel would make for a pretty freaking awesome weapon in the field.

Is it ignorance that I've never heard of a chrome line shotgun barrel? or is there another reason?

Many shotgun barrels are chrome lined. Mostly newer models. Makes cleaning easier from what I hear, although I've never noticed it. I've got two shotguns with Chromed barrels, and no rifles, however.

Are there any aftermarket cylinder bore chrome lined 20" barrels out there for the mossberg 500 8-shot? or someone who can chrome line it? King Joey?

I was just searching for the discussion of what I think was a Hungarian SG w/ a chrome lined barrel when I came across this. Sounded pretty awesome to me. I am under the impression that AK's were originally built w/ a chrome lined receiver for durability.

If you come across or know the name of that "Hungarian" shotgun w/ the chrome barrel let me know.

Chrome bores are typically found in the imported shotguns. The Benellis are known for this. Great for cleaning.
Chrome bores in US shotgun are not common (in the LE/Mil/HD lines), at least in the mass produced shotguns.
I know Remington had some older special/limited chrome shotgun bores.

You appear to be right on the money w/ the imports being chrome lined. It was actually a Turkish gunmaker and I think the name of the company started w/ an "H", not Hungarian; my mistake. Regardless, sounds great but maybe it is just unneeded overengineering?

I wouldn't consider a chrome lined barrel over-engineering. The reason I ask is that i think that a chrome lined barrel partnered up with a duracoated exterior and well lubricated internal components would make for a kick a$$, ridiculously abuse forgiving, long lasting SHTF weapon.

I don't know how to copy text to incude in this but gotta love the "ridiculously abuse forgiving" line. Part of the reason I bought a Glock many years ago; I know me and that I am not a clean freak. Hope that comment does not cause too many collective gasps.

The chrome and duracoat combo wd be very nice to have. Have not heard if the chrome lining alters performance such as patterning.

My Benellies have chrome lined barrels. It makes clean up easier and supposidly patterns better as the barrel is a little smoother.

So, has anyone heard of a service where I could send in a barrel and have it chrome lined? As it seems, that I am SOL for finding an off the shelf home defense barrel for my Mossberg.

The Europeans do seem to like chrome plating shotgun bores at just about every
price level. My FP6 is chrome lined. Don't ask you gunsmith to install choke tubes in
a chromed bore. It's all but impossible. Shawn

Can't be done. Or to be more accurate, there's no one on the planet who'd do it. Or to be even more accurate, you could buy 10 Mossberg Just in Case shotguns with the airtight tube things, for the amount it'd cost, if you found a company willing to do the work.

Chrome plating adds thickness, so the bores are purposely made undersized before plating, to compensate. Add plating to a normal 12 gauge and suddenly you've got a 12.5 gauge or something. So the chamber and barrel would need to be opened up by a very specific amount. A small shop would probably need custom reamers for the chamber (overboring is a common enough customization, though), while the factories which already mass-produce chrome-lined guns probably won't give you the time of day unless you've got the money to contract them to produce a few 10s of thousands of chrome-lined Mossberg barrels.
