Hello,
I am looking for Remington 209p primers and I cant seem to find them anywhere. Is there a good substitution for this. I am looking at loading the following...

2 3/4-in. Remington Plastic Shells (Gun Club)
7/8oz shot
17grns red dot
WAA12SL wad

I got this recipe from alliants website.

Thanks,
Scout

That's an anemic load with a weak primer.

My go-to load, which you can cross-reference with the online Alliant data is:

12ga Rem hull
17.5gr Red Dot or Promo
WAA12SL clone
Win 209 primer
1 oz lead shot

So, if you're trying to sub for your Rem STS209's, as long as you stay in the 17-18gr range, use any non-magnum primer you want.

Scout82,

That is an Alliant published load, and shows a chamber pressure of a measly 7000 PSI. Consequently you can/could use any mediun strength primer you so choose, and still be well under SAAMI max. pressures.

You can use a Rem-209P, a Win. W209, a CCI-209, a Cheddite, a Nobel Sport, or a Fiocchi, with no problems at all.

That particular load will not be at all sensitive to any particular primer in the medium strength category.

From Remington's website under Components;

New 209 Premier STS primers can be substituted for Remington's previous 209P primers without changes in published reloading formulas. Check with powder manufacturers for recommendations.
