A friend just called me and asked me to look up what a Winchester 12g 1886 rolling bock. I really did not find to much about them. I know it is a black powder shell and I think that it is a 2.5" shell. The patten was feb 16 and july 20 it has a circle with rao in it and a big w over the whole circle. Anyone have any info or price of a gun like this? He told me that the guy just got it from his grandma. And he has no idea what it is worth. I have not seen the gun yet but they said it was in good shape. Any info or help finding anything about this gun would be great.

There seem to be many variations of the "1886" model Winchester.

Here's a quick list of what Gunbroker has available: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Search ... words=1886

Prices vary widely based on condition, rarity, and caliber.

Go to your friends and ask to see the gun. Then read all the markings and describe the action. According to the two reference books I just checked, Winchester neither sold or made a falling block shotgun or a Model 1886. They sold a Model 1885 (single shot based on their Model 1885 single shot rifle)and a Model 1887 lever action. No Model 1886 is listed. The double barrels they sold were made in England by about four makers but with the Winchester on them.'''

Cuda,

You posted this in two places. I wrote a rather legnthily reply in the Shotguns General area concerning the Winchester Model 1886 smooth bored rifle and the M1887 & M1901 lever action shotguns.
