I picked up a 24" cylinder choke barrel for the A5 at the last gun show. It looks to be original, re blued but not cut. The # on it starts with a K and has three stars, the St Louis Mo & Montreal PQ address, made in Belgium. Is the 24" with a bead sight correct?
I plan to use this barrel for skeet and the original 28" for trap but thought that all 24" barrels were for slugs and had rifle sights? Have no problem just want to satisfy my curiosity. Thanks : Bill

Thanks for the reply KJ I was just curious, really like the A5. I just shoot trap and skeet for fun and enjoy using vintage guns. When I was more serous about trap, spent a lot on special trap guns but found out that I enjoy just shooting for fun more. Bill

The standard barrel legnths for the Buck were 23 1/3" in 1963 and they were 24" in 1964 on.

The standard barrel legnths were 24", 26", 28", 30", 32" & 34" on smooth bored barrels. However, special orders were made within reason.

The Auto-5/Auto-8 Police Contract came with a 24" cylinder barrel. These barrels were marked either *** or CYL. These guns were made prior to WWII.

I have a Superlightweight A5 with a factory 22" IC barrel. A friend has a 12ga Auto-3 with a 22" skeet barrel, also factory, special order.
I once saw a Belgium A5 Magnum with a 36" barrel but on close inspection it had been cut and legnthened. It was a very good job that took a jewler's loop to see.

I should add that Belgium guns had barrel legnths that were metric and the commom practice is to round up/down the barrel legnth to the inch measurement. That is 24" would be 608mm while 30" would be 762mm.

I would love to have a 24 inch MOD barrel. Love the short, fast barrels.

Are the Belgian buck barrels rifled or smoothbore or can they be either? And is that the same for Japanese buck barrels?

I wish I knew how to post a picture, or even take a picture with a digital camera.

I have a 60cm barrel which measures out to 23.62 inches or 23 5/8.
Duke

PS Tacotime - drop me a note about this barrel. I may want to part with it.

Gentlemen,

For those who are interested: here are the barrel dimensions as mentioned in FN’s 1909 manual for the A-5:

BTW: there are also mentioned two different stock lengths, i. e. 14 2/5” and 14 4/5” (from trigger to the middle of the butt plate).

Regards

Martin
