Courtesy of Bart's and FN, I received my long-awaited tri-rail extension yesterday. Determination of the best light is ongoing. This is a very nice piece of gear that will add to the flexibility and utility of an excellent shotgun. Here's two quick snaps:

That is pretty cool, but it will be better when you mount a light on there!

Totally true. Leading candidates right now are the $urefire X400 and the Streamlight TLR-1.

Do you have a link for "Barts"? I am not familiar with the name but I do have a SLP that needs that rail. Thanks

You said Barts and FN. Is this a Barts part? or is it made by FN?

It's an FN accessory that you can order through Bart's (or probably other dealers, check the web).

I contacted Bart's and they said they are on backorder. They are $135. You can leave your name to be put on the backorder list.

Wow. The first shipment must have sold out very quickly.

thats very steep for a universal rail sold at about any gun store and all gun shows. better off checking around before spending 135.

It isn't a universal rail, it's a magazine extension with built in rail, which will be more solid than a universal rail that clamps onto a magazine extension. If you compare the price of a quality extension plus the cost of a quality clamp, the price is pretty reasonable as well.

To add to TempestV's points, with which I agree, I can tell you that the level of quality on this item is premium. As a hobby machinist I can tell you that the setup time to put one of these things together correctly the first time would be pretty significant. All things considered, though not cheap, I think it's priced fairly. The design is truly excellent and adds a lot of utility for lights and other accessories.

For what it's worth, here's a picture that used to be on the FN website. This shows, I believe, the Mark 1 version. The version for the short-barrel standard version has a shorter sleeve. The assembly consists of an replacement aluminum tube with the three rails secured with screws. Installation is a snap - just unscrew the magazine cap, remove the issue sleeve and replace with the Tri-Rail assembly, then secure the mag cap. Making one of these things would be a bit of a job unless you do this every day. Even then, you'd need to either make a new sleeve or figure out how provide enough material on the existing sleeve to securely thread the screws into, since the issue sleeve is quite thin. The Tri-Rail sleeve has thicker sections under the screws to provide enough support for the screws to withstand recoil. You can see these in each of the three pictures.
