I need a shell lifter spoon for a Sears Model 14 583.14 Bolt Action Shotgun. I have tried all of the normal suppliers and some unusual ones but everyone comes up empty.

If anyone knows where I could find one of these I would appreciate the information.

Thanks,

There was a recall on these shotguns, something about the bolt coming out and hitting the operator in the face when fired.

here it is, it says model 10 so I guess you're ok.

Quote:
HIGH STANDARD/J.C. HIGGINS
MODEL 10,
12 GAUGE BOLT ACTION SHOTGUN

AND

SEARS
MODEL NUMBERS: 583.13, 583.14, 583.15, 583.16, 583.17, 583.18, 583.19, 583.20, 583.21 AND 583.22

RECALL: The model of shotgun may be subject to a BOLT FAILURE. When this occurs the bolt will dislodge from the action, striking the shooter causing serious injury. These shotguns were manufactured for and sold by Sears, Roebuck & Co. during the 1950's.

Call (800) 817-9165 for identification verification. Instructions for the return of the bolt and refund of $160.00 will be provided.

Looks like your gun is under the recall.

I believe the recall is about a screw that prevents the bolt from being pulled completely out of the gun while cycling another shell into the chamber.....
not when fireing....while chambering a second round.......evidently the part is easily lost and not really needed for the functioning of the gun other than avoiding pulling the bolt totally out....once lost most folks just kept using the gun...it's not like this model is a rapid fire item anyway......

It seems that some Dufuss working the bolt while having the gun shouldered hit his stupid self in the mouth with the end of the bolt.....sued Sears and the original manufacturer.....

Because the gun was out of production for many years already the companies settled and issued a recall on all the guns.....my estimation is that in regard to the issue of the recall the gun is safe for a person of normal intelect to use......keep lookin you'll find your part......

looking in the Numrich catalogue (#30 2007) the gun is the Harrington & Richardson Mod.# 120 parts are available you should call 1-866-686-7424

Perhaps there wee indeed accidents where the bolt retaining screw was missing and the bolt pulled back into the shooters face.

If this was the case why did not the recall extend to the other versions and gauges of the model 10 model, Model 11, and Model 14 all of which had that same style retaining screw.

I have photographs from the High Standard factory archives of a Model 10 with a fractured receiver - the part the takes the load from the bolt.

I also have a failure report that describes a failure like the broken receiver and it also says that the secondary locking lug was sheared off.
