Hello Remixs22,

Can you please be more specific about what do you mean by "polishing"?

Do you mean "removing" rust, burnt powder, etc. or do you want to polish your shotgun barrel for "Getting in shinny" and for protecting the inside and out from rust?

Regards,

For light rust, I saturate the rusty area with oil and let it set for a while, then carefully try to remove the rust with some 0000 steel wool. After I get the rust cleaned off, I wipe off the oil and then polish the surfaces with wadding polish. This comes in cans at most auto parts stores and contains cotton fiber impregnated with a very fine abrasive and an ammonia based cleaner/polish. I get very good results with this method and have brought back some pretty old and rusty firearms from pretty terrible condition into something that looks pretty decent and on which the rust no longer progresses. Much cheaper than rebluing the whole firearm and it retains the original finish on the metal.
