I read an article today about a new for 2010 version of the Mossberg 500/535/835 pump guns that have an LPA (lightening pump action) trigger.

According to the article, the LPA trigger is factory adjusted to 2 3/4 pounds w/minimal creep and is based on the lightening bolt action trigger used on their rifles.

It's available on their turkey and deer combos and the trophy slugster line of 12 gauge pump guns.

According to the article I read, the gentleman shooting the new model 500 12 gauge (and using Winchester dual bond slugs) shot 5 3-shot groups @ 100 yards w/the best averaging around an inch and the worst around 2 1/4 inches w/an average grouping of 1 1/2 inches.

Would I choose it over a bolt gun for accuracy potential? No, but for many people who like a pump gun for fast follow up shots in the whitetail woods or turkey hunters who want a crisper, lighter trigger pull, I'd say this is a product that might be worth looking @.

Regardless, I just thought I'd relay the info to those who might be interested.

Jim

Is this an adjustable trigger like the LBA trigger or just a trigger assembly, preset to 2 3/4 lbs.? I 'm assuming its fully adjustable between 2 and 7 lbs. as the LBA is. Any chance you can post a link to the article?

ewo,

This trigger is adjustable from 2 3/4 to 7 lbs (according to the article). Sorry if I wasn't clear on that point.

I can't post a link to the article, as the info was from Mossberg's 2010 buyer's guide & catalog. I was flipping through it @ Walmart.

BTW, I forgot to mention a couple of other changes on the "slugster" models for 2010.

The slug barrels are now fluted and aren't ported (according to the pictures I've seen).

I hope you are right about the fluting and getting rid of the ports. I hate the ported mossberg barrels. They fling lead and all kinds of mess out those crap ports. Not to mention a big kaboom.

Any idea if our old 835s can be altered?

That's a very good question that I have to admit has crossed my mind as well. It appears the new trigger assemblies are fitted to existing receiver designs so I would have to think it's possible.

But.......I do believe an email to Mossberg customer service would be your best bet for a yes/no on that question.
