At a local gun store there is a SKB 505 12ga. with 26"bbls,nickel receiver. Also comes with the box and chokes.
This gun would pass for new but it's probably 20+ yrs old. I'm going by what the clerk said.
This shotgun is very nice looking. :D
I've tried a web search but didn't come up with much with regards to the older SKB.
Any info would be appreciated.
Problems?
Value?.....They're asking almost $900
Thanks.

The price seems just a little high. You can buy a new 505 for $850, and the 26" bbls are not fetching a premium because of the trend towards longer bbls. There is nothing wrong with 26" , it's just a trend. Try looking on Gunbroker.com to compare prices.

I have a SKB 505 Delux Trap Combo that I am very happy with, and recommend them whole heartedly.

The factory that produces SKB in Japan recently closed, but the US Importer in Nebraska assures that they have 20 years worth of parts, and they bought all the plans for the guns. The are looking for a new factory to produce the same models. They offer excellent customer service and repairs.

Here is one: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... =153763967

$ 850 plus shipping and FFL receiver fees would put this at about $900, so your local deal is not bad if it is in like new condition, but if shows any signs of use, you should get him down a little on price.

The one at the store looks like the one on the top in the pic.
www.skbshotguns.com/over-and-under/field/index.php
The inside of the barrels and breech face look untouched/unfired.
I'm not one for long barrels. I prefer 28" but 26" is fine with me..Hmmmm... and if I get screw in extended chokes...DA-DAA!

Sounds like you have made up your mind. I don't think you can go wrong with SKB. Lots of gun for the money. I'd still try to haggle a little, but even at the sticker price it's seems like a good deal with the stainless receiver.

Enjoy.

What bore?

I have an old 500 in 20 Gauge, and it's a great little gun in 26". A 26" 12 Gauge wouldn't interest me as much, particularly since the gun is no lightweight in 12.

Note that you can get a Weatherby Orion (also an SKB, but with a plain receiver and a PoW stock) for $879 at CDNN, in 12/26" or 20/26".

OTOH I like those stainless receivers.

Are you sure it's a 505? I thought that all 505's came with blued receiver. Perhaps it's the more expensive 585???

They are good guns, but $900 is expensive for a used 505. If it's a 20 gauge, it would be worth more than a 12 gauge with 26" barrels, IMO.

Also, I doubt that the gun is 20 years old. Check on it again.

It's a 12 ga.
I went by what was on the tag as far as the 505.
I'm going back tomorrow and check it more closely. I'll take my glasses too.
Thanks for the replies.

I have 2 505's with the french grey receiver - a 26" in 20 and a 28" in 28 - 900 seems a tad high, even if ANIB. Mine are good guns and shoot well
