Interseting question. What .410 steel loads are you looking at, I wasn't aware of any until you posted this.

I would think the quality of the barrel would not hinder you. Just go by the old rule of thumb and never shoot steel from afull choke (choked for lead ).

Learn something new everyday. So far as H&R goes double check on the sight but I beleive the Pardner/Topper are compatible with steel in the smaller gauges as well, I know they are in 10/12/20. You may want to e-mail them to be sure. Here's a link to their sight;

I would live by the ole rule don't shoot steel out of a full choke... I doubt it will hurt your gun if its a newer firearms but steel already shoots a tighter pattern then leadso its going to be a very tight pattern.

I'd fully agree with what has been said above, dont shoot steel out of a full choke, and on the 410 I dont think id do it with a modified choke either. Thats a pretty small hole to squeze steel shot through, as steel does not compress like lead does as it goes through the choke. I'm not sure if the newer 410 can be bought with choke tubes or not. I'd call NEF and talk to them and see what options are available.
