What is the benefit of a tactical/breacher choke on a defense shotgun?

Does the jagged edge do anything besides adding "Ohh-Ahh Tactical" looks?

Seems to add a few inches which takes away the purpose of having an 18" barrel.

Unless you have a need (and the proper ammunition) for actual breaching the various screw in “Tactical Breacher” tubes just look “Tacti-cool” and might come in handy if you need to poke something.

That's about it. :o

Actually, that's exactly what some of them are used for: put it on a short barrel to bring it out to non-SBS length.

For civilian use they have little purpose other then for "collectors". You could come up with some reasons for them, but you realy have to want to.

I carry 16" NFA breachers for the 14" 590A1s and 18" breachers for 500, 590, and 870s. I make no real effort to sell them to civilians, but if you want them I have them.

And, OP, if I am not mistaken, the purpose of those breacher chokes is so you can put the muzzle directly against whatever object you want to destroy (part of a door, a knob, a deadbolt, etc), without damaging the muzzle end of the barrel.

Is that right?

The vents/ports are what prevent damage to the muzzle. The teeth allow the muzzle device to bite into the door/frame.

Kind of like a heat sheild they are there to make to mall ninjas feel cool, unless you have to breach doors within your own house for some reason.

They make a dandy stand off device as well...but what do I know? I'm just a "mall ninja" that likes heatshields and breacher barrels.
