Hello, I am looking for information and any idea of value of my old Greener shotgun. The barrel rib says " W.W. Greener 68 Haymarket London & St Mary's Square Birmingham. Winner at London Gun Trials 1875, 1877, 1878 & 1879" The barrel rib also has the following in an oval " Patent Tripe Wedge Fast" The Trigger guard has "41384 List No 56" The proof marks also has a strange Elephant mark. " Patent Tripe Wedge Fast" in an oval form. Not sure if this is some kind of locking mechanism. Any info on the model will be appreciate, not sure if this is Empire, Forrester or FH grades.

I was just looking on gunsinternational at Greeners today. I would say your's would fetch between 3-5K. Why don't you look there?

Thanks Patriot USA & revdocdrew. The link was very helpful. I was under the impression that the barrels are Damascus. I am little confused about the brown color although it is very uniform and looks good. Also someone on doublegun bbs has confirmed that it is a Facile Princeps action.... Rgds.

I would imagine that the triple wedge marking is in reference to the fact that Greener used double Purdy Underbites on the lugs as well as a Greener cross bolt. All three are wedges of steel that engage some kind of lug or hole to lock the action in place. It's an exceptionally strong design.
Please be sure that the barrels are in proof, that the barrel walls aren't too thin and that you have the proper length shells for the chambers before firing it. I'm sure you'd look into all that before you did anything with it, but in the event that you hadn't thought of that yet, I just wanted to remind you.
Beautiful gun by the way.

Bust'em, I a little surprised by the date you say your gun is made. I didn't think Greener made "laminated steel barrels" or "damascus" barrels in the 1950"s. Just curious how much did Graham Greener charge you for the information? And, did he try to get you to buy his book?

Goldhky-
Bust'em wasn't the original poster. When he said his gun was made in 1958, he was not referring to the one in the picture.

I ALSO have contacted WWGreener about a gun I was looking to buy and they were pleasantly extremely helpful with NO CHARGE what so ever....They even took the time to look at the website to veiw the pictures there and responded about what they saw in the pictures....I WAS IMPRESSED! BTW...That strange elephant mark (symbol)...is a symbol for WW Greener

Manufacture date would be 1893 or 1894 according to Nigel Brown's data.

Thanks everyone for all the info.
Sans Peur - You are right I have confirmed with Graham Greener that this gun was made in 1893.

I have a 1892 one with 27 1/8" Damascus barrelss choked imp.cyl/full. 24 lpi checkering, and a checkered butt plate. Weighs 6 lbs even. Top of barrels have in oval Pat' Treble Wedge Fast. On rib St. Mary's Square, Birmingham,England, Winner at all gun Trials 1875-1891. No engraving, I believe it is a Forester. A delight to use and shoot with low pressure, low velocity loads. Mine has markings on receivers water table, 13 which means bore was .710. Mine has been honed out to .729 which is out of proof but minimum barrel wall thickness is .029, 15" from breech.

I have recently bought a w.w greener shotgun(double barrel). It Looks just like oberndorfs pictures above. The number on my gun is 43384. I'm looking for as much info on this gun as I can get. I'd like to know the year it was made and how many were made. It has the elephant stamps as well. it also has what appears to be coat of arms stamped in it. Like to know its value as well as anything u can tell me about it. I think they stopped production of this model in 1967

Production year would be around 1895. Imo value is impossible to estimate without a hands-on examination of a gun. Greener used the Facile Princeps action for a number of years but to arrive at a figure for the number made is a tall order
