this shotgun has been handed down to me from my great grandfather. i checked the serial number online and it looks like it falls under the 1920 segment. i have posted this in other forums and i cant seem to find any solid info on it. any help you can give would be great. if there is anything specific that would help identify the gun, i can upload pictures.

When asking value, pics is the only way.

You apparrently have an Ithaca Flues Model Double, which model was made from 1908 to 1926, when the New Ithaca Double (NID) went into production.

Here's some shooting info (make "search" your friend):
viewtopic.php?t=4625&highlight=flues

FWIW - Value is determined by assessing the internal/external condition, percentage of remaining original finish, and the grade of quality it was made to (field grade, No.3, No.5, etc) - a lot of which can be determined only with multiple clear pics of both action sides, the stock(s), and a description of it's mechanical specs (bbl length, ejectors Y/N, etc) & watertable / bbl flats markings.

From your great-grandfather? Priceless! What an heirloom! I have had a couple Flues guns. They are well made and if in safe condition (to be established by a gunsmith) very good shooting with 2 1/2" reduced power shells such as Polywad Vintager, etc., available on-line for a fairly reasonable cost. You are very fortunate to have a family gun handed to you. Enjoy! I would recommend having a 'smith give it a thorough internal cleaning whether you plan to shoot it or not, just to make sure it is properly lubricated, so the internal parts don't rust or stick. {hs#

Book titles I can't help you with, but if you take the barrels off your serial number will be on the frame.

It's a one-of-a-kind underhammer .

Image

1) the pics can be rotated in photobucket for easier viewing

2) it's definitely a higher grade than Field or Special

The grade is usually stamped into the action watertable flats, viewable via removing the forend & unhooking the barrels.
There is most likely a "4", "5", or whatever stamped thereon.

Your gun looks like a Grade 4 Flues Model with the post-1915 engraving style. From the December 1919 Ithaca Gun Co. catalogue --

Anyway, you have one fine gun there. But if you ever decide to shoot it, use shells from these companies; low pressure. http://www.rstshells.com, http://www.polywad.com, www.neweraammunition.com
