Here's what little I know- JC Higgins was a brand name only, made by various American gunmakers from the 1940's through the early 1960's. Your gun was probably made by High Standard or Harrington & Richardson, and it's probably worth about $100.00.

Sears will buy the bolt on some of their 12ga bolt action guns. Seams they are defective. They were paying $150 now I think it's $50.

Ok cool Thank you for the info!

**Update**
I have Been looking around on the net for this gun and its kinda strange. Sears still has a recall from what i understand. but whats weird is that on the sears news release says this:

The shotguns were sold in Sears stores and through its catalog as the
"J.C. Higgins Bolt Action 12-Gauge Model 10 Shotgun" during the 1950s. It was
carried under a number of product numbers: 583.13, 583.14, 583.15, 583.16,
583.17, 583.18, 583.19, 583.20, 583.21 and 583.22. The product model number
is engraved on the barrel of the shotgun.

On my gun, the only thing it has on the barrel is this: Proof Tested - 12GA MOD
2 3/4 Chamber

My Model Number dose not match any model I have found.
It says the J.C. Higgens - Model 5331 Toward the back of the gun not on the barrel.
Sears, Roebuck and Co
