Good question. I have a 20ga 870 Express Magnum and a 12ga 11-87 Premier that I would like to know the build dates on. I have been told that the dates can not be found using the serial numbers like other gun manufactures. The same person told me that the date code is located on the original (to the gun) barrel?

Not sure, but i think that information may be available via the Remmy collectors forum. www.remingtonsociety.com

First of all, what model is it? Given that, you can usually get close. Remington can supposedly tell you, but my confidence factor in that accuracy is rather low seeing the known errors I have encountered that they have made. They say my 5 digit 1100 doesn't exist, just for example.
Barrel date codes are real iffy because Remington barrels have been swapped around a lot. I for one have 5 guns and 6 extra barrels.

I do not trust Remington's dating service accuracy. If they were Match.com, you could end up with Nancy Pelosi.

Well lets see.... 520xxx could be a 16- or 20-gauge Model 31 made in May to July 1937 time frame.

Ijust found out that it is a "PF" gun which puts it in the time frame that you estimated. Thank you for the confirmation.

Best Regards,
Strat
