Hello 2few, cdb, and all other Y/Huglu folk {hs#

I would like to slip into the Huglu forum for a second or 2 to pose a question.

I stopped in at a local TR Import's today and they have a Silver Eagle SA for $275.00, normally $398. (They also have a 2 barrel set, 28" & a slug bbl for $320)

I just wanted to ask around and get the skinny from you guys who know Huglu's.

The gun feels light, so I assume it's an aluminum reciever, will it handle heavy loads as well as light ?

Any and all info will be appreciated :D

Thanks and take care :!: :D 8)

I wish I could help you out here, but I can't, I know nothing about the Silver Eagle.

Hey Hound!!!!

Thanks for stopping over and visiting with us on our "home turf"!!!!!! Yeah.....cdb, SSGR20 and myself are all "Huglu Guys". We only invaded planet "Y" 'cause we liked their shotguns!!!

I wish I could offer some sound advice on the Silver Eagle. But I can't.

Here is what I know.......or suspect..........

TR Imports does not deal directly with Huglu....or anyway that is my understanding.

Instead, TR Imports deals with a wholesaler, distributor or something like that in Turkey.

To the best of my knowledge (and I am treading on thin ice here) the Silver Eagle is not manufactured by Huglu. Might, maybe, possibly have been manufactured by a new company started by some disaffected Yildiz employees.....but I am grasping at straws! Chuck Lutz (owner of TR Imports) used to stop in here from time to time, but he hasn't stopped in since I think about July of 2010.

All that said......If you want a SA, here is what I would do.....

1) Verify that TR Imports offers a 5 year warranty on the Silver Eagle (as they do on their Huglu guns)

2) Shoulder it, work the action a bit.

3) If TR Imports gives a 5 year warranty and you are close enough that you wont have to pay to ship the gun if you need service....

THEN JUMP ON IT!!!!!!

At $275 we are talking crazy low money!!!!!! I mean hell!!!!! MANY years ago, I paid $500 for a used Remmy 1100 and that worthless POS didn't even deserve to be used as a boat anchor or tomato plant stake!!!!I mean....it was a REAL DOG!

Tell you what......Make you a deal.....(better watch out when I say that).....you have seen cdb's thread about the reliability of his Canvasback....right?

Buy this "Silver Eagle". I'll chip in $100 towards the cost.

You SHOOT THE LIVING SHIP OUT OF IT. Then report here every time you shoot it, just like cdb has done in his thread about his Canvasback.

OK Hound.....the gloves are on the ground. You up to the challenge?

Buy the gun and lets all find out together if this is a decent SA or just another boat anchor.

Best.....2few

hound, the part about you stopping in flew right over my head  . I would talk directly to Chuck, and find out the skinny on the Silver Eagle, then come back and give us a detailed report on it.

I bought two Silver Eagle self-loaders about a year ago (one in 12 gauge and another in 20). I've shot both quite a bit on the skeet field, and have enjoyed the guns. I have not fired them with heavy hunting loads, so cannot speak to that subject.

Who makes them? Sounds like you are having good luck with them.

Thanks guys :D

You are correct, it's not a Huglu, it's made by Kral, another Turkish mfg.

I appreciate the offer 2few, it's very generous and I'm more thankful than you know, but I know you work hard for your money and I know you like scattergun's a lot, so you may need that c-note for your next find :D

I think I will go back, look at it again, and maybe,(probably), give it a try. It does have the 5 year warranty and it looks & feels very nice. It also has a mid bead on the vented rib which I like and comes with 3 chokes.(it uses the B gun type of mobil chokes so finding more will not be an issue).

Thanks again guys for the info, I will let you all know and post those ever important photo's when I get it :!: :D 8)

Good deal Hound!!!! If you decide to "go for it", my offer is open. Just shoot the hell out of it, count your rounds and tell us how she holds up!

I emailed T R Imports the other day about these shotguns, because I was thinking about picking up a 20ga. The sale is for 2010 12ga not the 20ga. He didn't mention that I couldn't order one on the internet for that price, so I'm not sure about that.

Any new info on the TR Imports Silver Eagle? I saw one NIB at a gunshow today for $350. It looked nice enough and the dealer said his customers liked it ... He said it was most definitely better than the Stoeger. This will be my first auto loader ... If not this, any recommendations? I've looked at and am considering the Baikal/WAS MP153, the Stoeger 3500, Remington 11-87 Premier (used), and the Beretta 3901. From other forums, I know most people seem to recommend the Beretta, but it as at the top of my price range at $579 and, to be honest, it wasn't my favorite when I handled it at the store. I've never handled the Baikal, nobody anywhere near me sells them. Thanks in advance for the input.

Nice looking gun. If you are interested in purchasing one, I strongly suggest you go with one of the the newer models that come with 2 gas pistons for heavy or light loads.

Check out this link:

http://www.trimports.com/commerce/ccc1170-12-gauge.htm

If the one you were looking at was one of the older models (no 2nd piston), be aware that CDNN is selling them NIB for $269.99.

BTW, Stoeger SA's enjoy a very good reputation.

Thanks for the website link ... from the pictures on the link, it looks like the 29000 combo, except that they are selling it with only one barrel and 3 chokes.

The seller told me it would handle 2 3/4" or 3" loads. Is this correct? How light of lights will it cycle?

Thanks

I'm not a "semi-auto guy", so my advice isn't worth much, but here are my thoughts.....

As GrizzlyAlan mentioned, the older models of the Silver Eagle do not handle light loads well.

The newer models are supposed to, but new models always make me nervous.

cdb1097 is our resident semi auto guru. Since I am in the market for one, I asked him what he thought was the AK-47 of semi-auto shotguns.....you know....the gun you can throw in a swamp, dig it out a year later, pish on it to clean it and it will still work....

He said Mossberg 930. They are inexpensive, work like a Timex and alternative barrels (turkey, slug, etc) are readily available and cheap.

If you are looking for an inexpensive semi-auto I would suggest you check out a Mossberg 930.

fng,

Sounds like an older model. If it behaves like my SE, it won't like light loads. It will handle 3" shells.

See my "Silver Eagle- Round 1 & 2" threads for more specific information.

fng,

If you want FTE's, jams and generally crappy results the Silver Eagle is for you, I was going to do a report on them when I found out they would not cycle light loads, and GrizzlyAlan bought one and this has been confirmed. I hear the ones with two gas valves are ok, but I for one will not be the guinea pig on this gun.

Thanks y'all ... I decided against it ...

Considering a few other budget auto loaders though ... any thoughts?

Stoeger 2000 or 3500
Hatsan Escort Magnum
Yildiz A71
H&R Excell
Baikal MP153

Thanks
