I have never shot any federal speed shok only federal premium 2 3/4 1 1/4 #3 at 1375. It patterned well but I had better field performance out of loads. How does the federal speed shok components and performance compare to Remington Sportsman or Kent.

I would say in my experiences w/speed shok, equal to Kent less money, above sportsmans and way way above experts. Difference between speed shok & Premium federals is buffer, price and plated shot in premium. Oh and more shot sizes. I Switched to Speed shok 2 years ago and have great patterns and good kill ratio.

Good deal Gene. Just curious what is your favorite load when shooting speed shok.

For sea ducks and divers I use 12ga, 3",1 1/8 2's 1550 fps. Puddle ducks 12ga, 3", 1 1/4 3's 1400fps out of my Silver. I shoot two + cs a year so @ $99ea w/ shipping from Rodger's they don't break the bank.

ranger -- I don't have any pattern numbers from Fed Speed-Shok shells but I do have some of the other loads you mentioned so I'll give you those.

I would guess there isn't much difference between any of them when it comes to shooting ducks out to 40 yards as these pattern numbers show. Of course, this was what my gun did so you will need to pattern your gun/choke to make sure it/they will maintain good pattern density at the distacne you shoot your ducks.

Pattern results from a 12ga Rem 870 SP w/ 28" barrel and factory flush Rem-chokes (pattern average of five, 30" post-shot scribed circle, yardage taped muzzle to target, in-shell pellet count average of five, and true choke constriction from bore gauge).

40 YARDS Mod. (.018" const.)

Rem Sportsman Steel 3" 1 1/4 oz #3 steel (193 pellets) / pattern 146 (76%)
Win Xpert HI-Velocity 3" 1 1/4 oz #3 steel (195 pellets) / pattern 131 (67%)

Fed Ultra-Shok Steel 3" 1 1/4 oz #2 steel (147 pellets) / pattern 109 (74%)
Rem Sportsman Steel 3" 1 1/4 oz #2 steel (152 pellets) / pattern 110 (72%)

There isn't a mallard alive that could fly through a pattern from any of these if you put the pattern on him! And, it looks to me like the Sportsman #2 steel load shot just as good as the more expensive Ultra-Shok load.

Anyway, there are the numbers so you can be the judge!

Remember, if you can't put the pattern on the front end of the duck, then little else matters!!!

Good luck.

I use both Federal Speed shock (blue box) and the premium (red box) and these shells work amazing out of my 10gauge and you can’t beat them, I have also used these shells in 12 gauge 3” and 3 ½” and same story there. I have used more high priced shells and there really is no better steel out there regardless of price, I like the black cloud but shooting a 10gauge you always look for the cheapest stuff you can find and that still is not cheap enough. I can get the speed shock for $21 a box. A lot of my hunting partners shoot the Xpert steel which is not an option for the 10ga but it works, the federal steel is def better. Another cheap fodder is the Remington sportsman steel which is on par with the federals out of my 10gauge and a little bit faster as well but you loose an 1/8oz of payload. I normally would only buy federal ammunition but the exseption is the sportsman steel Im impressed with stuff
