Hello! Wondering if anyone can give me some info on a gun that I recently came across. It is a double barrel black powder shotgun. No markings at all on the weapon. There is a stamp on the underneath of the barrel that is "LH" It does have a wooden trigger guard, which I thought was pretty neat. I have tried several times to attach photos but evidently my computer is being difficult, If anyone would like additional info please feel free to ask! Thank You!!!!!

Sorry but not a very good description. Is it a muzzle loader, a breech loader, hammer type or hammerless? The only information I could find on the marking on the barrel(s), "LH" is a marking used by a Belgian barrel maker named Henri Lochet Chaufontaine. If that is correct there should be Belgian proof marks consisting of the letters "ELG" in an oval with a crown over that. Also have never heard of a shotgun with a wooden trigger guard. There was a question about the same and the trigger guard turned out to be made of buffalo horn.

Sorry about that! It is a muzzleloader, has hammers, looks like the nipples are relatively modern.

Henri Locket was a barrel maker. We know he was active around 1907. He was a member of the
"Syndicat Des Fabricants Des Canons de Fusils de La Vesdre". Chaudfontaine is on the road between Liege and Nessonvaux along the Vesdre river. It is an ancient location known for making barrels. There are some hills outside of town with caves. Several hundred years ago, barrel makers occupied those caves and established their shops. In the mid-19th century a rail road was built that followed the river. This connected the smelting plants with the rolling mills and the barrel makers. Chaudfontaine (hot springs) is mainly known for its casino today.

If you take the barrels off and turn them over, you will find some proof marks. Here are the Belgian proof marks and date codes.
