Hello:

I had to call Beretta USA last week to return some gifts that were the wrong size.

That experience was surprisingly lengthy and unpleasant- as if not only had it never crossed their mind someone might order the wrong size but also that it was a massive inconvenience to make the correction.

Anyway, I asked the person I ultimately ended up talking with on one of the many calls this process involved about the lack of a 20 gauge in Beretta's current auto lineup and the guy told me the 20 gauge A400 was out of development and due in late 2012.

Interesting.

I asked about this last year and they said they had no plans to make a 20. This is good news to a 20 Gauge fan! :)

Late 2012 means you won't see one in a gunshop until 2013.

Beretta had the 20 ga A 400 at its booth at NSCA Nationals last month. Demo guns only. Not yet for sale. I got to shoot it. I was impressed although it is a bit light. Sure would be nice if they would bring it out with a 30 inch barrel but I'd bet that 28 will be the longest available.

Yep. My educated guess is, mid-to-late 2013.

Davidson:

Looked at from an upland hunter's perspective, how would you rate the A400 20 gauge? Was it wood stocked? What color was it?

Thanks!

I hope they do a xcel sporting version of this gun, and I hope they do a 32 or 30" barrel and not just a 28.

I really want to add another sporting gun to my collection and sub gauge 20 is what I want. I hope beretta gets after it, and makes it happen soon, but I'm certainly not holding my breath.

I believe they are making the 20 gauge version in a bronze color, according to their overseas website. Wish they were making it look like a real gun instead of a fashion accessory...

I spoke with Larry Friedman about this about a week ago. He confirmed there was a 20GA version due out in late 2012 / first quarter 2013. He also mentioned the DT11 Skeet and Trap versions would be introduced at the shot show and would start turning up first quarter.

He also noted that the prices of the DT11s have gone up 11% for 2013. May wait another month or 2 to sell mine.

Beretta's International site does show a 20 gauge listed under "A400 Xplor Action". It is a bronze colored receiver and the site shows these available barrel lengths - 24", 26", 28" & 30"!!! No 20 gauge listed under the A400 Xcel Sporting. Hopefully the 30" A400 will make it to the American market!

Oh and it lists the chokes for this new gun as Optima HP. Either that is a mistake on their website or possibly another series of chokes for the new 20 gauge models coming out?

I can't imagine that they would change the choke system for one gauge of gun, I bet they are going to be Optima HP, all the new A400's weather it's a Xcel or a Light, or Xtrema take the HP choke system.

The new 20 looks just like the 12 gauge Action. Don't depend on what is on the Beretta International site. Some thing listed there are not available in the US. For instance the Action is listed in the International site as being available with a 30" barrel but it is only available in the US with 26 or 28" barrel. Go figure.

Beretta's listed weights are notoriously inaccurate. I'll bet it's considerably more than that.

I'd like to see one with a 30 or 32" barrel option, once a 20 gauge in sporting hits the market, i will more then likely have one!

Barrel lengths only go to 28" in the US version.
