I came across a win 96 for sale. Can anyone give me some info on this gun?

The Model 96 Xpert was made in three grades (Field, Skeet & Trap), in Tochigi, Japan by Olin Kodensha for Winchester (along with the Model 101 O/U) from 1976-82.

It's basically a Model 101 w/o all the options & extras.

That information about the 96 being a no frills 101 just may be in error. It's not what I found out several years ago when I wad looking at one.

So, what did you find out? I had one and a Plain Jane 101 is exactly what I thought it was.
