First I'd like to say hello.
I am very glad I found this site.
What a great resource for this subject.

Thanks in advance for the help all of your posts have already given me!! :B3

My question is in regard to a Springfield Model 944 Series A, Serial #P773xxx.

I am in the market for a Mossberg 930 SPX and would like to trade the 944 since I haven't used it, and if memory serves, it kicks like a mule!! haha

I am guessing it doesn't have much value, but perhaps it will cover the FFL transfer fee when I find the 930.

Condition is average to above average, but not perfect.
Bore is in very good shape, and the exterior condition shows some wear on the stock and forestock, but nothing of any major significance.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Brian

The Springfield Model 944 is what I call a "Trade Brand Name" shotgun but that is not quite true in this case. SPRINGFIELD is a name the Stevens Arms Company uses on its less expensive shotguns. The gun are the same mechanically as the same gun with a Stevens name on it but less well finished and had a hardwood stock and forearm instead of walnut. The Model 944 is the same as a Stevens Model 94. The gun is a break open breech loading single shot shotgun. They come in all gauges, various barrel lengths and chokes.
The Mossberg Model 930 is a semi-auto loader,it comes in 12 gauge only with26 or 28 inch ported barrels accu-set chokes, vent rib blued metal and walnut stock. It was introduced in 2005. Values for each are:
Springfield Model 944 Excellent-$150, Very good-$100, Good-$75, Fair-$50 and Poor-%25
Mossberg Model 930 MSRP-$561, 100%-$480, 98%-$350, 90%-$315, 80%-$255, 70%-$210 and 60%-$165.
To reduce felt recoil, hold the gun tightly to your shoulder.

Thanks for the reply.

My 944 actually says Savage Arms, Westfield, MA on the receiver.

I plan to take it to the dealer and use it in trade towards the 930 SPX -yes, I found one, at a good price and should have it this week.
As I mentioned previously, I hope to simply cover the FFL transfer fee with the 944, not looking to make a killing.

I'll have a short review once I receive the 930 and get a chance to put a few rounds thru it.
