I have in my collection a Winchester Model 01 Lever-Action 10 Gauge shotgun. The serial # is 76XXX which seems to indicate at 1912 manufacture date. It seems to have been very nicely re-blued many years ago as it shines like no gun I have ever owned. I could brush my teeth in the reflection.

The wood is very nice and has minimal wear marks or gouges. The wood is in very nice shape for a 100 year old shotgun. It doesn't appear to have any modifications to it other that a nice refinish that had to have been well over 40 years ago. Bore is clean and smooth and every things seems to work as it should. I have had it about 20 years and have never fired it. The action is smooth and it is just a cool gun. It really has a cowboy look to it.

I have pictures available if needed.

Any help or information is appreciated....

Ty Webb

Here's what the Blue Book,Thirty First Edition dated 2010 has to say. You may well know all this anyway.
WINCHESTER
MODEL 1901. 10 gauge only, strengthened Model 1887 action to accept smokeless powder, lever action,
standard barrel length 32 inches, blued barrel and frame, 5 shot magazine barrel address on upper tang, 13.500 manufactured between 1901 and 1920 starting with serial number 64,856 and ending in 1920 with number 77,000. Values given are :
100%-N/A, 98%-$3,850, 95%-$3,500, 90%-$3,300, 80%-$2,750, 70%-$2,200, 60%-$1,975, 50%=$1,650, 40%-$1,375, 30%-$900.
According to the serial number-year made table in theBlue Book your gun, serial number 76xxx would have been made in 1920. The serial number range runs from last serial number in 1919 was 74,872 to last serial number in 1920 was 77,000.

Thanks for the response. What I have found is there are lots of different dates for when this would have been made.... Several sources give a date of 1912, one gives an exact date of Aug. 27, 1913 and yours shows 1920. One source says 77000 was the last number and others say 79455 was the last serial number and a total of 14600 were made in the 1901 versioin. All I know is it is still cool and quite a bit older than me. It is an awesome piece to show off as the sound of the chamber opening and closing is even more menacing that the racking of a pump shotgun.

Thanks!

Ty
