Does anyone know where I can get a wad comparison chart. I want to find out which wads are basically the same.

Thanks

They're all "basicaly" the same! Seems like in the Hodgdon and or Accurate loading book there is a section listing interchangable wads, other than that, I'm not aware of any such chart. If you study the Claybuster web site a little and see what the Duster and other after market makers advertise thier wads to be replacements for you will get a pretty good idea for yourself. You either have a AA or clone, Federal or a clone or a Remington figure 8 or a clone. I'm not aware of any clones of the RXP or Power Pistons. Looking at the applications regarding shot cup capacity will give you a fairly good idea of some sort of interchangability but on a direct replacement basis, look at the Claybuster and Duster web site. 'Bout as good as it gets as far as I know. The fitsalls like the Windjammers and the Versalites are a different cat altogether, similar to many different than all.

Here are some 'replacement' charts I dragged off various sites I have ordered from (sorry, didn't have time to systematically go through and 'delete' prices, etc.)

Also, (and as Burnt Powder advises) if you go to the various sites (Powder mfrs like Alliant, Hogdon, other mfrs such as MEC, etc., etc) they have wad charts in with their respective loading data.

Also, go to the site of mfrs for the wads such as Claybusters, Dusters, etc. -- also good resources for some charts . . .

When I come across 'em, I try and "cut & paste" 'em to a 'Word' doc. and insert 'em into the 3 ring binder I keep near my loading bench.

I've inserted quite a few of the bits of advice I have received from this list's members in just the short time since I found this list and, Boy! it comes in handy --- A LOT!

Go also to www.alliantpowders.com

they have a chart already graphed out that is as near complete as I've seen anywhere else (at least as far as Claybuster wads go) Try also the Hogdon sites, etc. they're out there and worth the time to look and print out

Good Luck!

Big-name brand wads and their respective clones are not always equal with regard to user-friendly loading. I load 12 gauge and .410" and the claybuster clones of the Win AA's are a real bear to put on the powder-shot drop tube/wad-seater of the press. The petals of the claybusters are often bent inward and must be separated by manipulation...frustrating at times. In contrast, the petals on the AA's are spread wide open and never interfere during placement. I choose to pay the extra for a wad that is easy to load, regardless of wheather or not a chart says it is the same  .

Dea Eclipse,

Just heat the claybuster's for one minute on a low heat setting in the clothes dryer and they will open up perfectly. Use a mesh laundry bag.

I do this to all wads then transfer to a plastic tall kitchen can bag. 1/4 oz of Midway Mica and toss violently for a minute and you are ready to load nice and smooth.

The Mica will give you about 30 FPS better velocity than listed and the wads will load smoothly regardless of the maker.

If you're looking for good quality wads at fairly low prices don't forget Hawk brand wads.

http://www.hawkinternational.com/

The Hawk I is a direct replacement for the WAA12 and the Hawk II is a direct replacement for the WAA12SL.

I use the snot out of them and have really good luck with them.
