I want to load red Winchester low-brass paper 12 gauge hulls for low-pressure application in an older SxS. One ounce of shot, Red Dot or Green Dot, paper and felt wads, Win 209 primer. Kinda like to stay under 8,000 psi. Does anyone have an older manual that shows date for such a load? I also have Hi-Skor powder. Thanks

THose hulls are so old that there isn't any data more current than the Lyman's #1, which was published back in the early 60's. The only load listed for them that has less than 8,000 LUP, which was the measurment used back them,(Lead Units of Pressure), was with 17.0 grs. 700X, a Federal 209, (Not the 209A), and an Alcan Flite-Max #3 wad.

I find it completely fool hardy to even mess with those old cases, when there are far better, currently listed loads for the current Federal Gold Medal paper cases, and a couple at 7,500 PSI or under. One actually at 7,100 PSI.

Both these loads use currently available powders, primers, and wads. Simply a no brainer. One load uses Winchester Super Target powder, a W-209 primer, and a WAA12SL wad, at 7,500 PSI and approx. 1250 FPS. A slight reduction of powder would produce 1200 FPS and an even lower PSI.

It's your decision, but in my estimation, those old cases need to be in the dumpster.

Do you have the older DuPont Hi-Skor, or the more recent Hi-Skor 700-X?

Here's a photo of the older Hi-Skor from the forum about 5 years ago:

There's a big difference.
