CCI 109 and 157 primers....came across several hundred of these primers in a box full of old reloading stuff. Is there a modern primer that these closely approximate? I'm thinking of using them in a light target load just to use them up.

157's are smaller than a 209 in diameter, unless you have the older Remington/Peters hulls they won't do you much good. I believe they are similar to the Remington 97 primer.

CCI109 are unplated CCI209's they were meant for target loads. You can use them with any data for CCI209 primers.

The CCI 109 was a lower cost, unplated, open flash hole version of the standard CCI 209 primer. It can be used utilizing the same data. BUT It should be used with flake powders like Clays, the Dots, Promo, 700X etc. and not with the fine ball powders due to possible migration into the primer cup as this could result in a blown primer. In many ways the CCI 109 and Rem 97* were similar.

The CCI 157 was CCI’s version of the Rem 57* primer which was of smaller diameter; .227” vs. the 209 size of .243”. Rem discontinued the use of the 57* size primer back in the mid to late 70’s. So there is little call for them these days. Many of us old pack rats still maintain a stash of the old 57* primers

Good info there... I popped the primer out of the oldest Rem case I have and the 157 "fell" into the primer pocket; no resistance at all so my oldest is obviously not old enough.
Thanks for the help!

Scout Master 54,

Thanks for the reminder about the open flash hole on the CCI 109, I forgot all about that.
