Hi fellas, got a question. I have an old Stevens ss 12 ga with all the serial numbers being 971. It's in good mechanical condition but it is needing a stock (cracked) and the forearm is cracked as well.
I woudn't care about fixing it up, but, it belong to my mother-in-law who has passed. Story goes she recieved it from her father around 1940 and he got it in a trade for some junk ( he was a scrap dealer) years before that...
At any rate I'd like to know when it was manufactured and where I can get replacement part for it. any help woill be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Bud

Bud.
I must assume that the gun is a single barrel (you didn't say so specifically unless ss means single shot and not side by side) and if it is and with a serial number that low it had to have been made years ago. Early Stevens Arms & Tool Company records were destroyed many years ago in a fire and there is just no way to determine just when the gun was made. Also Stevens made a whole host of single barrel, single shot break open breech loading shotguns (about as many as Carter made Little Liver Pills) including Models 94.95, 100.102, 105, 107, 106, 108, 110, 116, 120, 125, 140. 160, 180 and so on (see what i mean). We almost need a picture to identify the gun. I am going to make a WAG and guess it might be a Model 94 which was made from 1925 to 1935 and was the most popular. But hold up your head bunkie and shout. There are sources for parts. They are:
Gun Parts Inc
226 Williams Lane P.O. Box 299
West Hurley,NY 12491
Tel: 845 679 4867

Popperst Gun Parts
P.O. Box 413
Glendale, PA 19030
Tel: 215 887 2391

Jack First Inc.
1201 Turbine Drive
Rapid City SD 57701
Tel: 605 343 9544

Or in the case of stocks only, a good wood worker can make replacements.
