Any gun will "blow up" if it has a barrel obstruction. Not enough information here to even begin to speculate on the cause. Certainly, I wouldn't lay the blame on Kreighoff at this point.

Interesting thread there on TS.

There are two or three guys out of the whole bunch that got it right.

One even described exactly how it takes place.
And he got ridiculed.
I don't give a damn what the experts say, finely divided and dispersed fuels of any kind, can and will detonate under the right circumstances.

It could be done in a lab, but they haven't figured out how as yet.
They, in the labs, are not looking in the right place!

Funny, a gun blows up about once in a billion shots, yet one of our posters has witnessed nearly a dozen blowups with his own eyes. Amazing. Also amazing is that in dozens of threads on this website about blowups, not one victim has ever picked up all the empties, weighed all the components in the remaining shells. or told us about a hardness test being performed on his shotgun. Yes, amazing.

That's the only guy who got it right. Unless the gun went to a metallurgist for an independent examination, nothing will be learned. It didn't, so no one will ever have a clue.

Maybe, or maybe the barrel was already cracked or fatigued by a too-over pressure reloads before, with the barrel just giving up the ghost with the factory STS round instead.

But isn't that the point? Nobody did any REAL investigation, so nobody will ever actually know for sure.
