While looking for a used O/U for upland bird hunting and non competative skeet shooting, I found that G.I.Joes is going to have a 10% off sale on all guns and ammunition on Dec 5th. That would put a NIB 12 gauge Beretta 686 Onyx at $1115 plus tax. That's lower than anything I can find listed on-line. However, I don't know anything about this gun. Anyone know if there are any inherent problems with this model? Seems like a very nice shotgun for the price.

Nothing wrong with a Beretta 686 no matter what the grade! Mine hapens to be an E sporting! Somewhat more money than an Onyx, but it has more fluff too! I have a friend who just a few weeks ago got a new 686 White Onyx sporting, Fine shotgun!

I have shot a 686 onyx for the last 10 years on grouse and pheasants. I have also shot 10 or 15 thousand sporting clays, and have never experienced a problem. I think you can't go wrong. Also sounds like a great price.

I would agree. I own a 686 Onyx Pro Waterfowler in 12 ga. and a 686E Sporting in 20 ga and they are by far my favorite guns to shoot of the many in my safe.

I just happen to have a 686 onyx 12ga. for sale. e-mail me at skywalkerconnery@yahoo.com if you are interested. It is in excellent condition. The reason I want to sell it is cause I got a 525 32" adj. comb. that i shoot now.

Thanks for all the replys. The model G.I. Joe's has doesn't seem to be listed on the Beretta website. They selling the blued receiver 686 Onyx. They also have the Silver Pigeon. ($400 more) They seem to be functionally the same. Of course the Silver Pigeon model is much fancier. Still looks to be a good buy.

I have 2 Berettas, a 686 SP and a 687 SP. The Onyx is a fine gun that will last you a life time. You might want to go to one of the auction sites to see if you can find a used 686.

www.gunbroker.com
www.auctionarms.com
www.gunsamerica.com

I bought my 686 SP on gunbroker for $960 shipped. It was a '95 model and had not been shot very much.

Good luck!!

Buy it.

Pretty much all the Beretta 686 models have the same internal parts... you just pay more for wood or engraving etc.

It will last a lifetime.
